I think the DSK affair is more interesting because it shows the ugly side of human kind. With the financial bailouts and wars over resources going on, it’s a very opportune event that reflects upon modern Western civilization (or the corruption thereof).
With Arnold, it’s really just a private affair. Maria and her kids are hurt. So what? Life goes on. There’s nothing criminal about this.
With DSK, you have a whole establishment, in America and in Europe, that will want DSK exonerated and freed. His wife is jumping to his defense, so is his daughter.
The defense will turn this into a my-word-against-your-word kinda deal.
Are we supposed to believe a “respectable” privileged White man rather than a poor Black refugee who lives in the hood?
Bernard Henri Levy, a leading French thinker, has come to the defense of DSK. So much for equality and lofty ideals.
Would you defend your spouse or children if they commit a crime? Why? What’s the psychology of that. I’d be interested in eavesdropper’s take.

Right now, to me, the guy is just bad. Bad actor. Bad governor. Bad husband. Bad father. Just bad.[/quote]
Exactly, totally agree. Scum. I can understand, especially for famous guys for whom the opportunities and temptations abund, sexual infidelity. Everybody makes mistakes and power is a tremendous afrodisiac. But this huge lie for SO MANY YEARS, how could he look himself in the mirror day after day? how could he then look at his wife, and at the maid, and the children he had from them? Worse than scum. I wonder why he didn’t make a clean break and why didn’t the maid leave – with a lot of child support of course. Let’s say he didn’t want to leave his family for a lot of reasons. Why he kept the maid there with the child? I am sure he could have found her a stable nice job, or hell, no job, just give her plenty of money to support herself and her kids somewhere else in a nice place. We don’t know all the details, but I wonder about her character too. Or maybe she was too naive or ignorant about what she could do and didn’t want any legal trouble.

May 18, 2011 at 4:13 PM #696566AnonymousGuestYou think Arnold knew it was his when the maid became pregnant? If so, you’d think he could have paid her off to have an abortion. He has the financial resources to make sure that procedure was accomplished.
