allen-No doubt the current political establishment took some notes from Goebbels.
“Reichssicherheitshauptamt
Department of Homeland Security
The Reichssicherheitshauptamt (RSHA) was the main division of the Nazi SS, and the parent organization of the Gestapo. The German word “Reich” is untranslatable, but you couldn’t come closer in contemporary English than the emotionally-laden Bush-era term “homeland.” “Sicherheit” is always translated as “security,” and “Hauptamt” literally means “main office,” which could be reasonably translated as “department.”“As the enemy drew nearer Moscow, instead of the Muscovites’ view of their situation growing more serious, it became more frivolous, as is always the case with people who see a great danger approaching. At the threat of danger there are always two voices that speak with equal power in the human soul: one quite reasonably tells a man to consider the nature of the danger and the means of averting it; the other still more reasonably, says that it is too depressing and painful to think of the danger, since it is not in man’s power to foresee everything and escape from the general march of events, and it is therefore better to disregard what is painful till it comes, and think about what is pleasant”
–Leo Tolstoy, War and Peace“Reality is a thin line between denial and paranoia.”

“I feel like we got a righteous wind at our backs here.”
Is this the part that rings alarm bells for you?
Seems like the usual rally speech material. Fascism may be a bit of a stretch.
Hell yeah for a guy to say God is behind him and he is coming to save you is scary.
Don’t you think?? But I guess its ok if a democrat saids it right?

Dude, when isn’t some sort of devine selection invoked in this sort of situation? This is a theme that has been repeated throughout history…good and bad. Didn’t W declare God was on our side or some such thing when rallying the citizenry into taking on the invasion of Iraq?
I just think it’s a little too early to be playing “Tin Foil Hat”.You do realize that he spent a several years of his childhood in Indonesia, which has a large Muslim population. I’m sure he’s heard expressions such as, “righteous wind” on more than one occasion. He used an expression that he’s familiar with to express himself. We all do that on a daily basis.
Why is everything a Democrat vs. Republican arguement? How about we just worry about what’s good for the country. Both parties have been running the country into the ground. Why is it so hard to see that?
We’ve arrived at this point in history together; Democrat, Republican or other. Finger pointing and divisiveness isn’t going to get us anywhere.
Obama talks about change. If he is elected, will he truely bring change? Only time will tell. He’s only one cog in the machine but, he does seem to posses the ability to bring people of varying backgrounds together. That seems to be a very important attribute for some applying for this particular job.
No one outside the left and MSM think Obama is even qualified to be Prez much less a person to bring people together.
Its not the governments role to bring people together anyway. People bring people together.
John
I’m curious what you believe that role of President, leader is?
I’ve always thought of a leader to be someone that can take a step back from the situation at hand and make a decision based on facts and to affect human behavior so as to accomplish a mission.
I’ll leave the religion out of it because, I don’t particularly care.

October 23, 2008 at 12:24 PM #291681tcParticipantWouldn’t it be cool if we had a president who didn’t believe in any religion? It really seems silly to me all this stuff about “in god we trust”. It’s a great way to get away with doing whatever you want. When I was in high school we were having a discussion about a guy who killed someone because god told him to. Everyone in the class thought he must be crazy, but one girl who was fairly religious. She said what if god did tell him to kill. Who were we to say he was wrong for killing another human being. It was one of those eye opening moments. Oh by the way “GOD “ told me to let everyone know to stop using him as an excuse to get away with stupid shit.
But to try to fault Obama for use of religion in politics is a stretch. All of the politicians have been using it for as long as I can remember. Unfortunately it still wins elections. I look forward to the day that I don’t have to say “one nation under god”, when the president doesn’t end every speech with “god bless”, when our money no longer has “in god we trust on it, and when the influence of religion no longer taints politics. I do not think I will live to see that day. Maybe someday my great great grandchildren will. God I hope so.October 23, 2008 at 12:24 PM #292000tcParticipantWouldn’t it be cool if we had a president who didn’t believe in any religion?
