Just curious, doesn’t Torrey Pines H.S. has a big drug problem?
Not sure if it does or not, but it doesn’t matter. It has both test score and reputation.May 15, 2010 at 3:42 PM #550599anParticipant
Just curious, doesn’t Torrey Pines H.S. has a big drug problem?
Don’t know about Torrey Pines, but Coronado HS apparently does. I know interdistrict transfers whose parents have pulled them out and put them back in their area schools because of this. The consensus around here is that the kids at Coronado HS have too much $$ and time on their hands (very few youth jobs over there) and too little sense.
Must be due to children of military personnel (in Navy [Officer?] housing). The average homeowner age over there is 67 – LOL.

Currently, 2 out of 6 elementary schools in MM have rank 10, 3 have rank 9, 1 have rank 7. The two middle schools have rank 8 & 9. But that obviously is not enough to remove the stigma.
Same issue with SEH I think. That’s why SEH sell at a discount compare to the neighboring areas.
One interesting I noticed while looking at a whole bunch of different HS with rank 8-10, I noticed that the more diverse the school, the more likely for it be be ranked 9 or 8 vs ranked 10. If you look at the Asian/White/Filipino scores between MM/Scripps/RB/Westview/Mt. Carmel/UC/etc. They all are quite similar +/- 20 points. However, those that are ranked 8&9 on that list have a higher % of black/hispanic/Socioeconomically Disadvantaged/English Learners. The more I look at the numbers in detail, the less I’m impressed with the rank 10 API schools.
