Both districts cite overcrowding as one of the reasons for construction- I thought everybody packed up and left S.D for better living elsewhere : )

February 6, 2012 at 1:23 AM #737392AnonymousGuestI take this information with a grain of salt
A.) Because I personally know 7 people from my year, (THE SAME YEAR AS THE DATA) at SMHS that enrolled as freshman at UCSD. The information is completely wrong.
B.) SMHS is a poorer school and most people choose to take the community college path to save money. I know of at least 7 more students that transferred to UCSD from my year, with more planning to do so. The fact that Palomar is so close encourages more people to take the community college route.
c.) The graduating class is SIGNIFICANTLY smaller. This class in particular had only 270 students. Scripps Ranch had 480 and Mira Mesa had 505.
D.) San Marcos High experiences a severe brain drain because it is close to La Costa Canyon. Ex: I know of three former LCC, now UCLA students, who switched from SMUSD to avoid San Marcos Middle. Ironically, they all used to get better grades than me and I ended getting into better schools than them.
E.) The schools mentioned have much larger asian populations, whom have higher rates of going to college.
F.) The schools you quoted are all have higher parent education levels. Greater push for college by parents. -
