AN – No where does RP say he would allow abortion in health circumstances requiring it. He is against Roe V Wade. Period. In fact, he says the opposite, that he’s never seen a situation where it’s justified. Right there, he loses credibility on so many other issues, b/c I have to question his facts. Perhaps he was lucky enough to treat extremely healthy women. In any case, I do not want to digress and go totally off topic.
A woman should not have to leave the country or state. A woman who has some health issues that would cause her to have an abortion means she should be able to go to the nearest hospital and have that procedure done as quickly as possible.
Perhaps RP would feel better if there were more women graves than fetuses. If only we could send him back in time, or maybe to countries w/subpar healthcare where a pregnant woman has one step in the grave.
I would not wish on any woman to have to go through an abortion. More importantly, I would not want a woman to have do it illegally.
And if you know that death penalty and abortion are different topics, why interject it in the first place?
I am struck that even on this board that the “Because it is legal it is right” subtext is evedint.
There is not a woman that I know who has had an abortion that is not guilt ridden. That includes men as well. Therefore some part of some peoples brain or heart or soul is telling them that it is not right to have an abortion out of “convenience”. Ron Paul has always attacted me becasue he is adroit at showing how so many of laws are so wrong – in the sense that they do not reflect either common sense or our collective sense of “right vs. wrong”. There is a huge swath of people who feel abortion for convenience sake is just murder. They have a right to have their voices heard. Maybe this is one of those issues that defines a civilization. What State sponsored abortion says about ours is your call I guess.
Any by the way can anyone on this board name a politician actively seeking office that is willing to say his personal truth on such a divisive topic?? I say it is about time we have someone represent us whom we know where he stands on all the topics. I do know agree with him on everything, but at least I am confident he won’t change his opinion just becasue a new poll comes out. That is what leadership and courage are all about. That is why you can pull up youtube videos from 2002(!!!!) and hear Ron Paul tell you what was going to happen today – and largely be right about it. BTW compare that to what any of the other candidates were saying at the time.August 18, 2011 at 9:43 AM #720894aldanteParticipant
AN – No where does RP say he would allow abortion in health circumstances requiring it. “The first thing we have to do is get the federal government out of it. We don’t need a federal abortion police. That’s the last thing that we need. There has to be a criminal penalty for the person that’s committing that crime. And I think that is the abortionist. As for the punishment, I don’t think that should be up to the president to decide.”
“At the same time, Ron Paul believes that the ninth and tenth amendments to the U.S. Constitution do not grant the federal government any authority to legalize or ban abortion. Instead, it is up to the individual states to prohibit abortion.”
So yes, he’s against Roe v Wade, but he also believe the 9th and 10th amendments to the US Consitition do not grant the federal government any authority to legalize or ban abortion. Is that clear enough for you?
Coming back on topic and this statement:
Back to the media ignoring RP. They did give him more media coverage the first time around.
It doesn’t matter if he got more media coverage the first time around. This time, he’s scoring very high in the pole and yet, he is disregarded by both left and right media.August 18, 2011 at 9:51 AM #720904anParticipantJP, this is what Ron Paul say about abortion:

I 100% agree with this statement. Which is why I like him too. He’s not the most eloquent speaker or a good looking guy. But he’s consistent with his views. You can object to his views but you can’t say he flip flop on issues like most politicians.August 18, 2011 at 9:54 AM #720914anParticipant
Any by the way can anyone on this board name a politician actively seeking office that is willing to say his personal truth on such a divisive topic??
