I agree with SK that flu showed us the bigotry involved in the reaction to this case.
People are too quick to call things a race issue.
I can prove it in this case.
I’ve been as upset about this whole episode as anyone – smoke comes out my ears each day as I’ve read about it.
I followed it very close for the first few days before the actual criminals were identified. All I had to go on was the initial video clip where the biker was rear-ended – where the bikers were in helmets and jackets – and textual description.
I didn’t know the names nor the races of the idiots on the bikes since none of their skin was exposed.
When I finally saw photos of them yesterday and found out they appear to all be black, it came as a complete surprise. But it didn’t raise or lower my anger level.
Ya act like a punk thug, people are gonna hate you whether you’re white, black, Asian, or Hispanic.
And hate them I do.
svelteParticipant
if you see all of life in society as combat, struggle and conflict, with winners, and losers, havign universal health care just seems like a pussy way out, like, everyone wins and gets to get health care.
wouldn’t it be more american, more capitalist, to let people fight it out in the marketplace, and the winners in the top 20% say of income can get really amazing care, and the middle people can get a little bit of care, and the bottom gets nothing, not one lousy thingnot even a bandaid…because they lose. they lost.
isn’t that at least a reasonable position to take?
how are we going to motivate people to win if we keep losers alive? people will just loll about and eat govt cheese and get govt bypasses….
Wow.
I don’t even know where to begin on that position.
Being poor is not equivalent to being a loser. I know a lot of caring people who contribute a LOT to our society who don’t make much money. And many of them have historically went without healthcare. One example: day care workers.
My wife and I started out with nothing and spent many years sans insurance because quite frankly it was either insurance or eating. And I know what we chose. We were fortunate and made it through to the years where we want for nothing.
Having as many members of the public healthy as possible brings the entire country up: financially, physically, and morally.
If that isn’t self-evident I’m not sure what to say.
svelteParticipant
I don’t however see how anyone can be against the concept of getting everyone covered with the goal of a healthier population.
Agree totally.
On a related topic, can you name what the following countries have in common?

Personally I’m happy we’ve finally joined the rest of the developed nations.

Guns, fear, prejudice, intuition, testosterone, protecting turf and especially HOAs — a toxic combo!
Take the capital “A” out of that sentence and it sounds like what a gang member’s weekend would be like, from what I read. 🙂
svelteParticipantDo they sell condoms? I’ll buy condoms there

It’s funny, I can remember in my 20s buying a dozen donuts a few times a year so the 3 of us (me, wife, son) could have 4 each. That sounds so preposterous now that I can’t believe we did it. Luckily we kicked that habit before it caught up with us.
Seriously? A few times a year would be a problem? Lighten up Francis.
They taste like shit to me now. And nobody needs 4 donuts worth of sugar. Even a few times a year.
Sorry if that offends you.
svelteParticipantHilarious scaredy!
It has been so long since we’ve had a hostess product in our house I can’t recall the last time – probably on the order of 20 years.

svelteParticipant
Svelte – that explains the flummoxed responses, post election. They didn’t count on “urban” voters, and women voters.
lol!
Maybe what it shows that old white men mostly talk to old white men, and they fooled themselves into believing the whole country felt as they did.
Our neighbors threw an election party. They had a big Romney sign in their yard. All the cars on the street had gone home by 10. I am still unclear how the polls showed him losing but the right fooled themselves into believing otherwise.
Then again, maybe that explains a lot about the way they think…

I got the giggles for about 10 minutes after I read that article!

svelteParticipantWhat the electoral map would have looked like if only white men had voted.

svelteParticipant
Come on CA renter…I know your entire life is pretty much made up of posting on this message board…but I know you can’t possible be dumb enough to think Greece’s & Spains current financial problems were caused by Wall Street. Their problems have nothing to do with their massive Governments, massive pensions, unions and stagnant economies and private sectors. Of course not. You just once again re-enforced your loss of all credibility.
Come on ctr you can’t be dumb enough to believe that all of what ails us is caused by unions and the government. It couldn’t possibly be the far right’s constant attempt to reduce taxes to well below what is necessary to cover expenses, as the Bush tax cut did when the Republicans controlled the White House, the House AND the Senate in 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2006. Of course not.
svelteParticipantBaxter, a robot from a company called Rethink, is about to go on the market for $22K. This will enable work to be done for about $4 per hour.
Any job Baxter can do should be able to return to the US.
