Of course I didn’t stop, had no reason to – there was a yellow right turn arrow that I thought I’d make it. But I am pretty sure I was below 15 mph. I did slow down. Not that it matters. π

3. You seem to admit guilt, so maybe you should appear in front of a judge and ask for a reduced fine.
I could…it might be a better approach than pleading not guilty.
4. Turning right on a red light is actually quite dangerous to pedestrians and bicyclists. The latter especially, (I am one), may be moving pretty fast, are hard to spot, and are counting on you to stop. So-called rolling stops are common, but they condense the time for you to spot pedestrians or bicyclists.
I know, I know, I am a bicyclist too.
As I’ve said, this was the case the right turn arrow has just disappearead and I thought it didn’t make sense to slam on the brakes and end up in the middle of the intersection anyway. My mistake was not slowing down at the YELLOW right turn arrow. But because the right turn arrow just disappeared, bikers & pedestrians would have just started from full stop. It wasn’t even that, as it was just 0.1 secs. I am totally for stopping fully at the red light. It’s ok that I feel guilty, but that doesn’t mean I have to pay that much π

good luck,

Thanks! That is a good resource. Did you fight it in person in court, or in writing?I am reluctant to spend money on my defense as I feel they do have a case (photo/video evidence) and I should pay something, it’s just that to me, in this particular case this doesn’t warrant such a big fine…
October 9, 2011 at 1:25 PM in reply to: OT: red light camera ticket for right turn and 0.1 secs #730361ScarlettParticipantThanks everybody, I will try to get trial by written declaration first. I think I’ll use ticketkick which offers money back guarantee first.

If you decide to fight look up “Mr ticket”. Apparently he has a very good track record.
I did, it seems that his fee is almost $200 and there is no money back guarantee…
I haven’t received the exact ticket amount yet, but it’s supposed to be close to $500 (Ouch!).

Genessee and North Torrey Pines.
You can if you fail to STOP at the red light before turning right. I didn’t. π
You have to stop at red – to ensure others’ (drivers, pedestrians, bikers) safety.ScarlettParticipantsdr, I totally agree that until you’ve seen and experienced what WTC was, you can’t fathom how many lives it affected. I didn’t work there, but I lived in Manhattan for 7 years before 2001 and visisted WTC a few times – which is a total different thing than working there, I admit. And to me too it’s still incomprehensible. Your analogy with Grand Canyon is good, but not close enough – Grand Canyon is something relatively static, WTC had a life, a pulse of its own, like a small town if you want.
I agree that TV commercials spoil those moments, but that would have been done with any story, regardless of how tragic, exciting, or great. That’s the TV’s way of being. I didn’t feel that this event was particurlaly commercialized or politicized. Could have been treated with more respect by the media, and not pepper it with commercials, probably.
I’ve got real mixed feelings on this. (…)As for the heroes, many if not most of these were not soldiers or public servants but rather ordinary people standing up to help others at their own peril which is a very different thing.
In the mid 1980’s, I worked on the 97th floor of the North Tower everyday for a year. Many of you have no idea how big these buildings were and how many people were involved. Each building was home to over 30,000 workers each day. Combined these buildings disappearing off the face of the Earth is not that different than Temecula suddenly vanishing. But it’s not just the buildings. Beneath them was an entire world of workers in a city below the ground. Restarants, stores and a transportation hub for the PATH trains that brought workers into downtown NYC/Wall Street from NJ. I used to take that train everyday. Coming up from the station was a line of HUGE escalators, there had to be 20 of them and they were as long as any I have every seen. For 2 solid hours each day and evening they were jammed packed with a sea of humanity. There had to be close to a million people passing through that station each day. When I see others minimizing what all went down I suspect they have no idea of the actual scale of what happened. It is beyond comprehension to me and I was there hundreds of times. Then there was everything else that went on around it and the clouds of dust enveloping the area for days. If you havent been to this place you must go and see if for yourself. Just like you must go see the Grand Canyon. Neither can be appreciated in pictures or video.
On the other hand I don’t like the commercialization of the great tragedy that this was. Watching football with 12 year old son yesterday we spent a lot of time talking about it. Every once in a while there would be a great, solemn video come on about the tragedy that would move us. Each time it ended with either a Verizon, State Farm or other logo. My son would turn to me each time and say “Dad why did they have to kill that great moment?”
I was doing the same.
There seem to be more stories coming out to life or perhaps only now being widely publicized that there were at the time. Maybe my memory is failing me.
As a side story -though it doesn’t involve a victim – but a would-have-been hero

My DH thinks that the market for products NOT MIC is too small for those companies to be profitable. I would think that it shouldn’t be that small – but I’m not one of the marketing people for those companies.
