Are we there yet? (At the bottom). If the foreclosures get dumped, that should set a new low. I heard someone on the radio on Coast to Coast say that he thinks the U.S. is going to be like Japan in terms of real estate: flat for 10 years. I hope he is wrong. That will really be an anchor on the economy.
I think he was talking about this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lost_Decade_%28Japan%29
but I did not get the guest’s name.AecetiaParticipantBrian,
“The Trayvon Marting killing is interesting.” I have read enough of your posts to know what you are saying, but I think I would call it tragic, more than interesting. No good can come from this. I think what is interesting is all the commentators on both sides of the aisle and the various and assorted folks who actually profit from something like this by ginning up donations to their causes. I think it is a sick way to make a living.AecetiaParticipantThis one probably has a low fatality rate, too:
“You know those days that are just so bad you wish you hadn’t even bothered to get out of bed? Well, the folks at Fisker Automotive had one of those recently when their sexy, expensive, award-winning, new sports car died in the parking lot of Consumer Reports before any quality tests could be conducted on it.”March 3, 2012 at 1:39 PM in reply to: OT-The Bar is Unbeleivably High to be a public safety worker #739247AecetiaParticipant
My point exactly! I dont beleive for a second that they are any worse the any one else. The point is that they arent any better either. This hogwash of super stringent hiring and training that selects of the only the best, brighest and most ethical is the point fo contention. They are humans just like the rest of us.
You have a right to demand higher standards considering the level of responsibility and training that is given to them. I believe the public agencies go cheap on the psychologists and end up with low bid people. Low bid is not the way to go for cops. I am not sure what tests the firefighters use to screen their folks, but at one time they did not even screen them as stringently as law enforcement and that is a big mistake (IMHO).
AecetiaParticipant
Just for the record, when speaking of public employees and their thug unions, I also throw utility workers in the same boat. In fact, utility workers probably have it better than public employees (I know, that’s hard to imagine); well at least based on my utility bills that’s my hypothesis.
I agree with paramount because out here Otay Water has life time medical for them and their families and even though most of us have cut back on water use drastically, the bills magically always increase!
AecetiaParticipantI see a lot of folks shopping, but not that many buying. The market is up, but real estate still seems down. Not sure what is going on. I am not sure this is a recovery. The market can be manipulated.
Then there is this: “The National Association of Realtors reported that the median home price in January fell 2% from December to $154,700. That’s the lowest price reading since November 2001, before the run-up in home prices that became known as the housing bubble.”

AecetiaParticipantGo Aztecs!
AecetiaParticipantThey are doing great this year and I am glad to hear that you are not hanging out in some sleazy bar, but going to basketball games instead. I will look for you in the crowds when I watch them on the 11:00 news. It does not seem like you were able to get the message across to the Piggs. I think they are football fans.
AecetiaParticipantI think that is a smart plan. Five years from now solar should be even better and I am sure the companies will have been winnowed down to the most competitive, so you should get a better product, maybe even a product that does not look so darn ugly on the roof. I would go with a generator for now for when Homer pulls the plug on our power in Yuma.

I think most of the South Bay is unmanned or unwomanned and they just use cameras to collect the scofflaws who do not pay, but I could be mistaken.
January 19, 2012 at 4:59 PM in reply to: OT- CONTEST!!! Guess public sector household earnings #736446AecetiaParticipant
Good point. Nowhere is nepotism more prevalent than in government jobs. Don’t believe it? Watch all the job changes and appointments as playoffs when a new politician takes office.
Excellent point sdr and absolutely correct. We see it with the D.A., the Sheriff, etc. If they cannot force people that supported the other guy or gal out when they take office, then they transfer them to a dead end job where they will never get promoted. It is as full of cronyism as a D.C. lobbyist.

AecetiaParticipantLooks like the Euro is going down:
“PARIS – The eurozone economy plunged back into crisis on Friday as France and Austria were stripped of their top triple-A credit ratings and Standard and Poor’s downgraded a swathe of debt-laden EU members. Only Germany escaped unscathed, as all other eurozone members were either downgraded — some by two notches — or else warned their current ratings were being re-examined amid fears about sovereign deficits.”http://www.abs-cbnnews.com/business/01/14/12/euro-crisis-deepens-ratings-agency-strikes
January 14, 2012 at 12:19 AM in reply to: OT- CONTEST!!! Guess public sector household earnings #735870AecetiaParticipantI am going to go with 325. but a lot depends on rank and position unless the public safety employee works a ton of over time.
