Hi Allan
I am just as confused as you are. You would think that somewhere along the line that he would have had to show his birth certificate to the Federal Election Committee.
This apparently has not happened because this would be not be an issue. Why file a motion in federal court on something that should be in someones file at the FEC. Why would a Hillary supporter file it? Why not some republican??
This leads me to believe that the republicans had nothing to do with it because they much rather run against Obama then Clinton. Another reason they would not be behind it is, say they lost. If Obama is not eligible and they can prove it then they can always challenge the election. Get out of Jail card so to speak.

August 23, 2008 at 8:47 PM #260831Allan from FallbrookParticipantJohn: I think the question about the FBI vetting Obama for a senatorial question would be fairly simple to answer. I’ll go Google this and find out what the situation is.
I hear you as far as the lawsuit being filed, and, yes, I’m hard pressed to imagine why someone of this stature would file a frivolous lawsuit in Federal court, but that doesn’t preclude it from happening. This is pretty high-stakes poker being played right now, and I don’t put it past the Clintons to use someone as a stalking horse to try and throw a wrench in the machine right now.
If I were a member of the RNC, I would be all over this in a New York minute, and for the reason that it goes to the very heart of electability and “the rules”. If Obama were ineligible, and the RNC was aware of it, they would look completely reasonable “outing” Obama. Wouldn’t you agree?

August 23, 2008 at 9:15 PM #260841Allan from FallbrookParticipantJohn: From the FBI.gov website:
“What type of applicants does the FBI investigate?
The FBI conducts background investigations on all persons who apply for employment with the FBI. Additionally, the FBI conducts background investigations for certain other government entities, such as the White House, Department of Justice, Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts, and certain House and Senate committees.”My understanding is that Obama sat on a Senate Intelligence Committee. If that is correct, then the FBI would have conducted a background check (based on the sensitive intelligence and information that the Senators on that committee handle) on him. Hard to imagine that they would have missed the whole “not a US Citizen” thing.
