It was wonderful. So as not to completely threadjack, I promise I’ll bring this back around to the subject at hand. Anyway — I had a stimulating conversation with a bunch of underage students who were in a bar celebrating their teacher’s birthday. I bought her a drink and all of a sudden they thought I was cool. I quickly assumed the role of the American stereotype breaker. “No, not all women in America are blonde with big plastic boobs. No, not every American owns a gun. No, we don’t all watch baseball. No, we don’t still call black people ni***rs.” They were genuinely curious about these things.
But here’s the best: They asked me if it is difficult to get a flying license in the USA. Seriously, they wanted to know. I think they were just amazed that 9-11 happened and were wondering how. They assumed that anyone could just climb into a plane and fly it anywhere. We are, after all, the land of the free, right? Apparently it’s very difficult to get a flying license in Spain.
I’m still waiting to hear from the FBI/CIA on that one. Especially after what happened today.

February 18, 2010 at 10:30 PM #514804RicechexParticipantThanks Arraya for the video link. There is something really odd here. The focus is the guy that ran the plane into the building. Downtown Austin and no employees in the building? Austin isn’t Steubenville,Ohio. Doesnt work for me. The only other thought is that the building is paid for by taxpayers dollars and used for nothing, thus the reason for no workers.
