I have an idea. Why don’t you become a firefighter, Brian? It’s such a sweet job, practically a sinecure, high pay, absolutely insane benefits. And all you have to do is go into burning buildings once in a while.

August 5, 2009 at 3:18 PM #441163briansd1GuestWell, Eugene, in many localities, firefighting is a volunteer job and people who live in the back country have to pay for their own fire protection.
Seems to me like the politicians should be thrifty, rather than generous, with the public purse.
I think that the way it’s going, we will see another taxpayers’ revolt.
In Florida, elderly retired voters are frequently defeating school and infrastructure bond measures because they don’t need the services in their gated retirement communities.

August 5, 2009 at 3:21 PM #441169EugeneParticipantYou’ve avoided answering my question … since you clearly think that firefighters are overpaid, why don’t you become one? Is it because you expect a taxpayers revolt that results in cutting firefighters’ salaries and benefits in half?
