Yes, it’s high time all the whiners got those “easy” police and firefighter jobs. Heck, they’re soooo overpaid and underworked, it’s a no-brainer!
Why not sign up and tell us all about how easy it is, once you’ve done it for a while?

August 5, 2009 at 3:32 PM #441184BoratParticipantI have an idea. Why don’t you become a firefighter, Brian? It’s such a sweet job, practically a sinecure, high pay, absolutely insane benefits. And all you have to do is go into burning buildings once in a while.
One of my friends is in the firefighter training program right now. There are a lot more applicants than jobs in firefighting, so even if Brian wanted to become one there’s a good chance he wouldn’t be able to. I think people rightly realize that it is one of the last remaining secure positions available to ordinary people, hence the high demand for the jobs.
I had a fireman friend years ago that described the job as “absolutely the best job in the world 99% of the time, and absolutely the worst job in the world the rest.”

August 5, 2009 at 3:35 PM #441189briansd1GuestI have other things to do.
My point was that public salaries are not commensurate with the market for talent. The public is paying too much for what we get. That is my point.
I don’t have a problem with people in private enterprise making tons of money because that’s what a free market is all about.
I do have a problem with taxes being spent on generous benefits.
