ParticipantThe demolition took place in murrieta
Here’s a story on the same place from 2007
http://www.nctimes.com/articles/2007/11/25/news/californian/22_59_4311_24_07.txt
It was not a big company but some dude trying to build 16 townhomes by himself, he went bankrupt in 2006 back when monkeys could make money in real estate and left the framed units in place and fought the city who ended up tearing them down themsleves, he was such an amatuer that didn’t get inspections or approval so the city was able to have them demolished.
Summer house or summer place (the condos that were supposed to be 55 and older by the new hospital) was bought by the city and they hired a contractor to finish it as affordable housing. Not sure if that’s a good thing but the city is always in hot water and at risk of losing gas tax money because of the lack of section 8, etc., I guess it’s better than just sitting there and people have to live somewhere. I couldn’t find the article but it was in the paper about a month back and the nimby’s were up in arms because a few of the units are allocated to some non profit that helps the homeless or something like that. Nimbys are pretty strong up here, I have a sneaky suspicion that after a year or two that it takes them to finish it, they’ll end up selling it, they just need the homeless angle to use city money.

ParticipantI used to have a bad impression of American cars as far as reliablity but since about 2003, I’ve changed my tune. I’ve owned about 20 cars in my time and honda, toyota and infiniti were my favorite for reliability until my recent experiences with a few domestics, now it’s an all domestic garage at casa de TG. It’s anectdotal but my current and recent domestics have gone further with fewer repairs than my german or japanese cars.
People sell cars for a variety of reasons, those for sale are not a good indicator of which vehicles are problems. I’ve owned almost all makes and my old Ford Expedition was the most dependable car I’ve ever had, I miss her, I regret getting rid of her.

ParticipantThere is one difference, they didn’t have The Great Depression to look back and learn lessons from, or the internet to inform/scare/spin/etc.
If the dow retreats below 6000 again, I’m going all in, my money, your money, maybe I’ll steal some money or sell body parts/fluids and put that money in. But I’m fairly certain I missed it, sometimes you just have to open a bottle of wine and accept that you aren’t perfect, that fear gets the best of you sometime, that you might be better with 5 or 10% less brain cells, so you might as well start dumping some now, it’s only money, by the third glass it doesn’t matter so much, even if only for a few hours.
The same theory works in football, I can want the patriots to be bad, I can read blogs where people with credentials say that they won’t beat my beloved bolts, we can look at charts and history, we can look at blue mohawks, but at the end of the day, Brady is back, and that is gonna be bad for everyone else in the AFC. At some point you just have to accept it and find a way to enjoy the ride, dammit, that realization is gonna take a fourth glass to make the pain go away.

ParticipantThe more I think about it, the more I like it. They were going to piss away the money anyway, this way at least I have something to show for it and I don’t have a clunker to trade in, wish I did. What did they give AIG? What did you get out of that? As taxpayers we own a pretty big car company, if people didn’t buy them it would cost us money anyway, this was just like having a sale. If it continues and we use less fuel, the price of fuel will drop for everyone and we will import less.
I had dreams for the stimulus money, I wanted to end up on the other side of this with non imported, non polluting energy, that was my only wish. I am still kinda excited about the algae technology that the oil companies are throwing millions at. I want solar power on my rooftop to be cheap and efficient, something the size of a dish network sattelite to run the whole house. I’m one of those guys who lived in a dorm built by the WPA and still remember, I want to to see the results if we are going to dig a hole for ourselves. When they send everyone $500 to stimulate the economy, it pisses me off, when they save a bank or an insurance company it pisses me off, but when they spend money on something that will have long term and short term benefits, I’m in. It may help save Ford, Gm and Chrysler, it may keep us from the tipping point. I’m one of those guys that doesn’t see NASA as a waste of money, because velcro is cool.
I also think that the current regime needs a victory and this could be one for them. I don’t play sides with politics, it’s all the same to me, but I do root for the home team no matter what logo is next to their name, so I want our current president to succeed, just like I wanted the last one to, and I will hope for the best for the next one. I still think that Ronald Reagan got us out of the last funk, not because of his policies, but because the 1980 US Olympic Hockey team, maybe, just maybe, cash for clunkers is Obama’s hockey team, because today’s enemy isn’t the Russians, it’s the guys we buy oil from.
