IBM to cut 26% of its work force or approx.100,000 employees.
SD TransplantParticipantI savers are doing well in a global economy. Look around a bit, the $ is king again. The ruble is 1/2 its value in the last few months, the Euro’s forecast to be back on parity 1:1 with the $ by the end of the year. If you are a US saver and invest globally, this is a great opportunity.
Think about how much cash in $ is sitting in US corporations ready to buy at discounted prices.

SD TransplantParticipantthanks for sharing HLS
SD TransplantParticipantThat’s perfect timing as I have been considering staining my patio cover that I’m about to build. THe current one with H2O based paint is termite ridden and paint is peeling off….I had no idea there is legislation around this subject.
SD TransplantParticipantbump…..it’s 7 years later, let’s see how the predictions turned out 🙂
– Zillow: pretty relevant compared to status quo NAR
– Craigslist:for renters is a great tool (price/availability/area research)P.S. and I miss PerryChase’s contribution to the blog 🙂
SD TransplantParticipantI just checked and it is a sad 1.7% for the year. I’m glad I parked the other 401k in mutual funds….I can’t trust a market expected to grow forever

February 20, 2014 at 12:36 PM in reply to: Moving money to another country for better interest rates #771110SD TransplantParticipantKev374, I think you are oversimplifying the risk. I woudl not have the courage to deposit it any private bank there, and I deal with global banks on a daily basis(Indian banks as well)…cash under the mattress may be better suited vs. a deposit with I-C-I-C-I.
My 2 cents
Planning to move out about $160,000 over to India where the interest rates are 9.5% annually. The Rupee has seen some volatility lately but I feel that it has hit a high of 62 to a dollar and the downside risk is small. Even if it goes to 70 to a dollar then it’s about a years worth of interest anyway.
I also know I have to fully disclose foreign interest earnings and pay tax on it. I figure I will pay 28% Federal tax (as that is my marginal rate) and currently 9.3% CA tax as well, so total of 37.3% of my interest will vanish in taxes but I pay the same taxes on my current pathetic interest income of 0.8% anyway. No way to avoid that!!!
I figure if I move to Texas next year then I will avoid the 9.3% state tax on my interest and my money could compound quite well.
My questions are – what are some of the downsides of transferring large amounts of money out of the United States to chase better interest rates elsewhere?
Another point to note, I am originally of Indian origin but i’m a US Citizen…however I have special OCI status in India (Overseas Citizen of India) which gives me parity with Indian citizens for banking, residence and employment purposes.
SD TransplantParticipantx 100
Watch “Forks over Knives” on Netflix by Dr Esselstyn. This was Bill Clinton’s diet, or rather life style change. Called extreme by some, but not when compared to heart bypass surgery.
SD TransplantParticipanttraffic is going to be troublesome. I live nearby, and in the weekends I can only find parking around the bank or far away. Interesting to see what impact the new gas station will have a year from now.
