UCGal,
You heard the the latest rumors on what Sanjay is up to? 🙂 If it turns out to be good, well it might be good.
Haven’t heard. Tell me (you can pm if its not OK for public)August 14, 2012 at 6:19 AM #750254UCGalParticipant

Looks like Mot Mobility/Goog today.
My group was hit – but I survived. (So far.)Mobile devices group here in San Diego was decimated if rumors are to be believed. (I work for the cable side.)
My Schwab financial adviser called me to make sure I was ok – she’d been getting calls from clients who work here and want to know about rolling their 401ks.
The press (various articles) says 4000 jobs worldwide from Mot mobility. 1300 or so from the US. 700 from Illinois according to the Chicago Tribune. If rumors are to be believed it’s about 200 from San Diego.
Wife reports the same about Mobility. Almost entire group layed off.
So many people got fired she is wondering where she is working next as she can’t imagine that they will be keeping the buildings.

Still several hundred Home employees. I don’t think people realize this campus was majority Home employees. I suspect they’ll consolodate us into building 2 and lease out or sell building 1. It’s owned free and clear and on separate lots. Prop tax records show it’s owned under the old General Instrument name.August 14, 2012 at 7:03 AM #750256CoronitaParticipant

Somebody said that Qualcomm has about 1000 job opennings. Is this true? That would be very bullish for the housing market.
Most of the people in my group got emails from a Qualcomm recruiter based on our linked in profiles so the Q is being pretty aggressive about recruiting.
QC is making war with a lot of people. So they need a lot of soldiers. It’s really not going to be that bad imho in the mid term….I’ll send you a PM…

Thanks for the 411 UC… I enjoy the fact that she will remain in Sorrento Valley. I work here as well across from one of the monolithic Q Com buildings and it is nice to be able to have lunch with her from time to time (and car pooling when one of the cars are in the shop).
Thanks again!

August 14, 2012 at 3:30 PM #750282flyerParticipantA friend mentioned the article below to me. Even though I’m not in this field, I thought it might be interesting to add the link to this thread. Wonder how many people they are planning to hire?

SAIC’s relocation to the East Coast will be complete around the first quarter of next year. The only thing remaining will be those supporting contracts with business units that have a local presence. All corporate functions, IT/Finance/AP-AR/Treasury/HR and exec management moving to the east coast.

One local company has filed a WARN notice.http://www.edd.ca.gov/jobs_and_training/warn/eddwarnlojd12.pdf
BAE is set to cut 77 people.
(Cuts less than 50 people in 1 month don’t require WARN notice.)Another regional cut, not defense related…
