My company just laid off 13 people. 3 of them are forced retirement with 6-month pay b/c they are over 65. 8 of them are lazy, unmotivated and unproductive people. Only two of them I thought are good workers but I think management got it mostly right this time.
We had about 180 people at this plant and sales dropped about 15% the last three months.

I believe the layoffs is going to be sizable but doubt it will be anywhere near the 26% figure. Losing 1/4 of your workforce could cripple the company – regardless of the company’s or the individual’s performance (or lack thereof).

Reports from multiple sources suggest Big Blue will will slash its global workforce by 26%, which would represent about 112,000 of the approximately 431,000 people IBM employs globally. IBM’s stock, a component of the Dow Jones Industrial Average, has slipped 0.7% since it reported last week earnings that beat expectations but revenue that missed. IBM has missed revenue expectations in 12 of the past 14 quarters. The stock has lost 3.8% over the past three months and 13% over the past year, while the Dow has gained 5.2% and 11%, respectively
