Fox news huh? If the National Enquirer had a TV show it would compete with FOX news.
salo_tParticipantThere is no doubt in my mind that a lot of this is arson. By who and for what reason is yet to be seen, if ever.
But with the construction industry in such a slump this is sure to put a lot of home builders back to work.
There was at least one instance that I heard about where a home suddenly burst into flames on the La Jolla Indian reservation. I guess it was miles from the nearest fire but has now caused a lot of damage to the area. I think the authorities will be looking into that guys finances to help figure that one out.

Stay safe.salo_tParticipantTG, thanks for the heads up on Stratford!
I wasn’t crazy about the homes and now even less so. I’m curious to see what kind of offers they start sending over as things get worse.salo_tParticipantTG, thanks for the heads up on Stratford!

This Saturday the Fam and I were bored and decided to drive up to Temecula to view the homes and see what kind of deals were being offered. Most places have reduced prices and then will kick in another 80k towards whatever you want, rate buy down, selling price or whatever.
The last place we visited was Stratford at Redhawk.
These are Centex homes anywhere from 2204 to 2750 sq ft and priced from 389k to 419k. After checking out these homes I went back and told the sales lady that they are nice but I’m looking to buy closer to 300k. She quickly said that when a house falls out of escrow the builder will slash the price on it just to move it and it might be closer to what I am willing spend. Then I asked if I could also collect a commission since I have an active RE license? Again she quickly said yes! its 5% on top of whatever deals are offered.
To be honest these homes were not my favorite but I think this shows that we are around the $135 price per sq ft. already. By next Spring I imagine there will be some very attractive deals popping up.salo_tParticipantJust thought I’d share a quick story. I’m still stuck on the fact that you’re Realtor has shown you 100 homes! Hell, he’s spent a boatload of his own dough just driving you around. I don’t think he would try and screw you over after all that but he should submit any offers you want to write.
The bottom line is, work out the numbers and submit the offer you are comfortable with. It may be low and it might not get accepted but stick to your gut feeling and don’t let your emotions talk you into a bad decision. If your Realtor has a problem than get another one… they’re everywhere!salo_tParticipant“Now after looking at well over 100 homes”

As glad as I am to finally see the market start to correct I
keep thinking about all the family’s that are pretty much going through hell as they go through foreclosure.Seeing all this makes me happy that I stuck to my principles and fundamentals and stayed the hell out of this market.
Its not our fault that money was being given away and people were allowed to make one bad decision after another buying up these over priced homes.
Most home buyers were so entrenched in the philosophy that you have to buy now that even trying to mentioning that the market was about to change would bring heckling from the new genius home investors.
This whole real estate mess is just another great example of the importance of being an informed buyer. Those who were informed made lots of money and those that weren’t lost everything. I don’t know how many people I told to wait and not buy but they did anyway and are in a huge financial mess. Should I still feel bad for them?salo_tParticipantIts interesting that this topic just came up because I was sitting around thinking about the same thing recently.

Rustico, just to let you know. Big game hunting in the US is controlled by the Fish and Game department. If you want to go out and hunt say whitetail deer than you would have to apply for a deer tag through the Fish and Game dept. They only provide a certain number of tags a year as a way to keep the deer population healthy. Hunting actually plays an important roll in keeping deer populations at the right size for the land they occupy. Over population can lead to starvation and disease. Its not like the 1890’s anymore where people could shoot bears and buffalo into extinction.
