As flu said, it’s great for current homeowners, but not great for those trying to get in or move up. It’s especially sad that most of the kids who have been raised in the area can never afford to live there when they grow up–should they want to. IMO, that will be true in most of San Diego in the future.
Why? What’s so different now than say, 2 years ago?

ParticipantLittle League teams from Chula Vista winning big at Williamsport is old hat. Yawn.
Just kidding. A great accomplishment. The only thing missing is not facing Tijuana in the final.

ParticipantSome of the pro union pieces of work on this blog have no shame. Filner admitted he acted inappropriately and even went for “treatment”. That by itself is enough to conclude he’s not mayor material.
16 women have come forward alleging actions by Filner ranging from creepy to probably illegal. Were the Filner apologists as supportive of Clarence Thomas when one woman alleged he’d acted inappropriately? Surely not and for obvious reasons.

ParticipantThe prosecution didn’t prove its case. But they never really had a case and the initial review had already concluded that. But political considerations forced it to trial.
Much of the media ought to be ashamed of itself for the coverage. Just one example: Zimmerman a “white Hispanic”. Really?
Is Obama a white African American?

The reality is that they aren’t. Rate hikes won’t affect the amount of buyers, either. They will only affect how much each buyer can borrow. This doesn’t mean buyers won’t buy a residence if they need one. It just won’t be the type of residence that FTB’s and STB’s have become (artificially) “accustomed to” being able to buy in recent years. It will be lesser in size, in a lesser location or in lesser condition or all three.Buyers will have to suck it up and deal with it.
So who will be buying the homes that aren’t “lesser in size, in a lesser location or in lesser condition or all three”?
I say the same type folks that are buying them now, only the principle (price) will be lower to meet the lower borrowing levels (demand). People aren’t getting more house now due to lower interest rates, only more debt.
The sellers will be the ones sucking it up.

I want something that has plenty of room for my toys and dogs (bikes, stand up paddle boards, 2 75 pound dogs) and gets good gas mileage. I think I am going to go this weekend and test drive the Jetta sportwagon and AUDI A3 both TDI get great gas mileage, but is the extra cost of diesel worth it?
My 2009 Jetta TDI had a failure of the high pressure fuel pump. VW had to replace the entire fuel system due to metal shavings from the pump grenading. Mine wasn’t the only one for this generation of the TDI.

I think Audi diesels use the same fuel pump.
Additionally, the turbo failed on it twice and I kept getting a check engine light for the exhaust temperature sensor despite NUMEROUS attempts at repair by the dealership.
I also owned a 2003 Jetta TDI that was the best car I ever had. I wish I still did. 45 mpg, 650 miles to a tank. But the clean diesel I bought in 2009 was a mess.

-interest rates could gradually rise, leading to even less ability to be picky, and even possibly being eventually shut out altogether
Ridiculous. The SELLER will be hurt by higher interest rates, not the buyer.

Who parks in the garage?
But seriously does it matter? It’s not like the differences between neighborhoods would likely be much changed including garaged cars.

Participant
I believe more often than not certain predictions can be made about a person based on the vehicle a person drives.
Are these assumptions/predictions 100% accurate? No
And yet I maintain that there is a strong correlation.
With that in mind, I decided to develop a ratio that can be used to draw certain conclusions about a city or community right down to the street level.
I call it the Redneck Ratio.
Method: In a given area, using google maps street view, I count the number of pickup trucks/10 houses in a cul de sac.
Yes, I am making certain assumptions about pickup truck drivers in general. That’s what marketing is all about.
A few example ratios:
Temecula: 0.3
Murrieta: 0.6
4S: 0.1Seems about right to me.
It seems this survey would be WAY more useful if the street views were all done on weekends.

As the cost of education has increased, the quality has declined. Yes, that’s a broadly sweeping statement, but it’s been largely borne out by experience. I’ve hired college graduates that lack basic written communication skills, not to mention the absence of critical thinking/reasoning capabilities.
Why did you hire them? Seems a thorough interview process should obtain some insight into the critical thinking ability of a candidate if those skills are critical to success in the job.
I wouldn’t fault the quality of the education so much as the willingness of the colleges to graduate those unqualified. Good students can get a great education. Critical thinking and reasoning abilities can be learned to some degree but for the most part you either have them or you don’t.
As far as hotels, if you pre-book online, you’re usually told the full price before they charge your credit card.
I know. The hotel is just an example… I think it’s moronic that merchants (Costco included, not just hotels) don’t include the sales tax in their price tags, as they do in the rest of the world. So, in addition to all those annoying x.99 prices, we have to add 7.25% or 8.5%, or whatever the rate is in your locality.I recently bought a six-pack of imported (hard to find) beer at a mini-market. They priced it so that after sales tax and CRV, the total came to exactly $10.00. Cool… I wished they would simply put “$10” on the shelf or price tag, so I don’t have to calculate the real price and carry unwanted pennies.
But there’s a difference…
Food that isn’t served doesn’t have sales tax so what you see is what you get.
Everything else has sales tax…Ever tried to get a store clerk to compute sales tax in their head… Hell, ask a store clerk if they can compute 10% in their head, and most would fail at that..
I have met engineers that can’t move the decimal place!
CE
Reminds me of a situation at work where someone asked me for help and the answer was to move the decimal left two places, so I told her to divide by 100. I guess she didn’t like the answer and asked someone else who gave her something better, to “multiply by .01”.

It’s funny, I can remember in my 20s buying a dozen donuts a few times a year so the 3 of us (me, wife, son) could have 4 each. That sounds so preposterous now that I can’t believe we did it. Luckily we kicked that habit before it caught up with us.
Seriously? A few times a year would be a problem? Lighten up Francis.
They taste like shit to me now. And nobody needs 4 donuts worth of sugar. Even a few times a year.
Sorry if that offends you.
No need to apologize since I’m not offended at all. Just curious how someone can be so obsessive about not eating sugar to consider having a few donuts a few times a year to be “preposterous”.
