Wouldn’t that apply to any sale? Not so simple. There are always sellers and buyers.
Absolutely. Real estate transactions are pretty simple. Information is readily available and an informed decision can be made.
However, when things involve third-party/partnership in the transaction it becomes really tricky. Again, if business is good then why is B bailing? Why A is not taking over the whole thing? How about passing that on to their relatives?

Participant
Flu, some people will benefit, but like you said on the other thread “they will go somewhere else”, talented immigrants that is.
Wrong. The more talented they are the more desire they have coming here. This is the one country that they can maximize their earning potential. There’s a reason why there aren’t a lot of successful startups & IPOs coming out of those countries. A typical programmer with less than 10 years of experience earning the equivalent of about $6000/year in india. With that same experience they could make 15x more here. It’s still better even after you factor in the cost of living. Moreover, here you get better infrastructure, sanitation. Less traffic congestion (yes), less air pollution, etc…

Participant
What was going on for the last 8 years wasn’t what was best for the country.
Please be more specific with this statement. Better yet, name three things that the Obama administration did or didn’t do that would justify such a conclusion.
I thought the administration did quite well domestically -specifically reducing unemployment in half. Internationally, it did an admirable job repairing relationships with our allies that the previous administration FUBAR. So, please let’s hear something concrete why you believe that the “last 8 years wasn’t what was best for the country.”

Oh, that’s beautiful.
We should wager on how much they end up getting. Is there a minimum donation? I should donate 18 cents just to be the first one. I’ll see if it’s not too late when I get home.

Participant
This is great news. The xiao long bao at Dumpling Inn went downhill after the Shanghai Saloon expansion. Best in town I’ve found these days are at Tasty Noodle House across the street.
Spot on. Dumpling Inn served respectable xiao long bao. Tried it after it morphed into Shanghai Saloon and they weren’t the same. I do like the decor of SS, though. Funky & fun.

Apple sues Qualcomm for $1 billion
January 20, 2017Apple Inc. is suing Qualcomm Inc., alleging the smartphone-chip supplier demanded onerous terms for its technology and that it sought to punish Apple for cooperating in a Korean regulatory probe into Qualcomm’s licensing practices.
The suit, which Apple said it filed Friday in federal district court in the Southern District of California, claims that Qualcomm leveraged its position as a manufacturer of a critical chip used in cellphones to seek “onerous, unreasonable and costly” terms for patents and blocked Apple’s ability to choose another supplier for chipsets.

There was this the other day – Qualcomm allegedly paid Apple billions of dollars in rebates to use its chips.
The bigger the companies the bigger the lies.

Participant
Where’s your data about the depressed housing price? Here’s the data from the census: https://www.census.gov/hhes/www/housing/census/historic/values.html

California $211,500 $195,500 $84,500 $23,100 $15,100 $9,564 $3,527
It looks pretty depressed from 1990 to 2000. Went up merely $16K (8%) for california for the whole 10 years. The rest of the other decades prices went up from 50% to >%300.

no but it was 35 for uber to the airport and 80 back from the airport by taxi.
What I like about uber is that you know the price up front give or take a couple bucks.

Participant

All these students (and more OOC/OOS students) are taking up seats from CA HS graduates who had an expectation during HS (and rightly so) to attend a public university in their own state which offers their desired program AFTER they did everything necessary to get admitted.
If they do not get admitted they obviously did not do everything necessary to get admitted. They did what they (and/or you) thought was necessary to get admitted.
Actually, an audit back in March had this finding:
“The report, issued by state Auditor Elaine Howle in March, won headlines primarily for its explosive finding that UC officials had denied enrollment to 4,300 qualified California students over 10 years while lowering admission standards for out-of-state applicants and sharply increasing their admissions — such students pay triple the tuition that in-state students pay. Those actions contradicted a core goal of the foundational California Master Plan for Higher Education: having UC be dedicated first and foremost to educating Californians.”
