ParticipantMy wife will be very happy to hear this. She loves that place!

GuestThat’s pretty awesome. I’ll be sure to take my cousins from Ohio there to show them our coastal attractions.
We could use a nice Hong Kong restaurant in the UTC area.
Westfield, if you’re listening, build condos above the mall, please.

Participantyes, quite excited as well.
coupled with H-mart, 2nd Ranch 99, couple of 85 degrees, Ajisen Ramen, upcoming Tasty Pot, SD is finally becoming more and more Asian friendly.
All it took was building a bunch of new homes from the coast to Poway along the 56 corridor over the last decade. (we have to make this about real estate!)

KeymasterYum! Thanks for the PSA. I’ve never been there… can’t wait to try it.
Nothing better than good, authentic Asian food…

ParticipantThe key is to go on a weekday, and show up about 45-30minutes before the door opens.
If you show up after the door opens, expect a 1-2 hour wait. At least that’s how it is at South Coast Plaza
Here are there other locations in the US

There’s even a wikipedia about them.. Lol..

That was in the original plan but the community said no. Which is why they changed that. It’s OK, you can live in Coste Verde towers across the street or the new Garden Community apartment that’s being built right now.January 26, 2017 at 2:30 PM #805151an

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Din_Tai_Fung%5B/quote%5DSouth Coast I think is an exception. When I went to the South Coast one, it was a 3 hours wait at 6PM on a Sunday. So we didn’t stay. But the Glendale one was only 45-60 minutes wait. Being in UTC isn’t bad either, because while you wait, you can shop or go for a drink at one of the other restaurants or bar.January 26, 2017 at 2:59 PM #805152Hatfield
ParticipantThis is great news. The xiao long bao at Dumpling Inn went downhill after the Shanghai Saloon expansion. Best in town I’ve found these days are at Tasty Noodle House across the street.

ParticipantI’ll definitely try out Tasty Noodle House. Thanks for the heads up, Hatfield.

Keymaster45 minute (or more!) wait you say? Maybe I’ll stick with Dumpling Inn…
(OK, I have to try it once. But after that).

ParticipantWe’ll definitely give it a try…thanks for the heads-up.
And thanks for the link to the website…didn’t even know it existed but will start using it!

Spot on. Dumpling Inn served respectable xiao long bao. Tried it after it morphed into Shanghai Saloon and they weren’t the same. I do like the decor of SS, though. Funky & fun.

ParticipantTried the one at South Coast and loved it. Good to know about the new one, and glad to see so much going on at UTC.
We’re always trying new restaurants, and since we’re living in Malibu part time now, we’ve found some great spots there, so in case you take a drive up the coast:

Also add Ollo to that list. Great farm-to-table, etc.

GuestMalibu sounds nice. Lucky you. I’ve been wanting to move North to LA but my family is here.
