ParticipantIn our neighborhood of 15 YO homes in Encinitas there are approx 4 homes for sale. One was listed for 4 months, was reduced, and finally sold. Another is now reduced after 4-5 months. Other tow are newer listings.

ParticipantOne issue I have is that I am completely unimpressed by material wealth, especially when it is being flaunted by someone who can’t afford it! I live in Encinitas and I can’t get over all the luxury cars that I see every day. If I see another blonde silicone barbie stepping out of her 5 series Mercedes I’ll gag.

Some of you have said that the people in many of these cities are nicer, more welcoming etc. than in SoCal. I’ve often thought this as well – every day in fact. But then others would say that people here are very nice, laid back etc.
If we are to generalize, what tangible things make a place ‘nicer’ so to speak?

ParticipantFunny, I’ve recently read some pieces about places like Boise, Austin and others still appreciating. But looking into each one individually I have found that they all have issues. EG: Inventory levels in Boise are rising fast and there are 15,000 homes planned. I am wondering if these markets are turning so fast from good to neutral/bad that the news articles cannot keep up. Since the articles are based on sales data from previous months, and use year over year pricing, this is very likely what is happening.

ParticipantThat makes two of you who would go to Austin so there must be something good going on there. I just checked out the DR website and there are some great deals to be had from the 150s-350s. I just don’t know what areas of Austin to focus on. There are a few communities near that huge lake in hill country towards the NW part of the city…actually outside of the city in the suburbs. Looking at DRs website, and the fact that the homes are on a Fred Couples golf course and the community has an 8000sqft. rec center with a waterpark, I am guessing that this is a good area?
My biggest concern with Ft. Collins is job opportunities. I don’t want to have to commute to Denver. I bet Boise and Austin have better job opps right now, especially when you consider the govt. sector. Thanks for the info!

ParticipantFlinger – I had decided not to look at Austin as a place to relocate but am now planning to take a look after reading your comments. I’ve never been to Austin…how does it compare to a place like Ft. Collins or Boise?
