Going back in time: THE DAY LOS ANGELES’S BUBBLE BURSThttp://www.nytimes.com/1984/12/08/opinion/the-day-los-angeles-s-bubble-burst.html
fun4vnay2Participantanything like this can never happen in CA
CA is different πfun4vnay2ParticipantI am also in the biz of selling time ie consulting but doing chores put my mind in meditative state and thus refreshes my mind.
I love doing household chores on my own as my job is mentally very exhaustive like all of us probably..
fun4vnay2ParticipantNever paid anyone to clean
I do the cleaning on my own and when I do, I reduce the time in gym πfun4vnay2ParticipantMy friends consider me crazy as my car is worth $2K and my new bike was $4K. I love riding on hills…
fun4vnay2Participantcommute is an issue along with good schools for kids.
May buy a property in TV in future…fun4vnay2ParticipantDon’t know why but TV seems much attractive to me in comparison to SD.
I’d love to retire in TV but can’t move in right now because of commute.
fun4vnay2ParticipantA lot of my friends in south east wonder why would I ever live in SD with this much cost of living.
Comparison of SD to London is not apples to apples. It should be LA or SFO to London.
SD is not as big as these cities and opportunities are limited.
fun4vnay2Participant

Depends where in the LA Basin — and if you have a family, you might not care so much about friends. Though you should.
Family is more than just spouse and kids.
DNA wise siblings are closer than kids.I like my relatives. I don’t miss opportunities to keep in touch. Even parents’ cousins and their kids.
I’d say you are lucky and wise.
I feel the say but I am not lucky enough to have any of my relatives close by. they are all thousands of miles awayfun4vnay2ParticipantI like TV much better than where I live: SD.
But I can’t commute 4-5 days from TV to SV.
I’d love to have a property in TV once I semi retire.. I’d wait..
fun4vnay2ParticipantFew facts my friends in 2007 told me in san diego to justify that the real estate prices in san diego would never go down. Those facts still remain intact:
1) SD is locked between ocean n desert thus limited land here
2) best weather , everyone wants to live here
3) a lot of rich people in san diego
4) awesome companies like qcom n now illuminaThese facts are still facts even today.
Few of my friends commute from TV to SV, they strongly advise against it if possible.
fun4vnay2ParticipantI have more than one property in socal and not selling my primary as I need a place to live.
Also, my family is not yet there where we hoard things. Every month we do an assessment of what we need and what we have and thus donate/sell a lot
My friends wonder why do I have an empty garage..
But in general, in san diego’s good area, rent vs buy calculation is out of whack and hence one of the reason to pull back.
fun4vnay2ParticipantYeah, its gonna be fun this time.
I have been lucky twice, bought in 2001, sold in 2007 and bought again in 2011.
THis forum helped me a lot to gauge common sentiment. When people say this time is different, my gut tells me: This is the time..
It has been boom n bust in socal and i don’t see any reason why this won’t be same in the future
We all have out beliefs and we put our money where our beliefs are..
fun4vnay2Participant

I agreee with this limited land which is a fact. Someone told me the same thing 2007 that land is in limited quantity ( sandwiched between ocean and desert ) in highly desirable san diego and hence real estate prices would never go down but keep on increasing.
Did you buy in 2009-2011? Are you selling now?
yeah, i am diluting my real estate holdings in socal.
