Here’s my great business idea. Have you ever noticed how people tend to go to restaurants that have a lot of people in them already, and tend to avoid the ones that are empty? As a visitor to a new city, or even when I’m wandering around Downtown or Hillcrest, if I’m looking for a place to eat I will totally avoid a place that is empty.
So my idea is to supply “extras” to new restaurants that have not yet built up a clientele. You could hire college students or retired seniors at minimum wage (plus meals) and pay them to sit and eat at restaurants for 4 hour shifts, making the place look like a “happening” spot.
You would of course charge the restaurant enough to cover your expenses plus enough profit for you. But the overhead should be quite low. Advertise on Craigslist for “actors”. The hard part would be convincing the restaurant owners to hire your actors/patrons.
I thought of this years ago, and I still think about it every time I walk by an empty restaurant, especially when the restaurant next door has a line of people waiting out the door.
citydwellerParticipantTo be completely honest, when I first heard about this story I immediately felt that Sarah Palins rhetoric was responsible, and I hoped that she would suffer for it. But then I realized I was no better than what I think she is. We are all in this together. I think that it is important that we all respect one anothers opinions and not feel the need to resort to violence or even hate.
What I learned from this and hope others do too, is that we are all trying our best. And yes, it is time to tone down the rhetoric, myself included.citydwellerParticipantTo be completely honest, when I first heard about this story I immediately felt that Sarah Palins rhetoric was responsible, and I hoped that she would suffer for it. That holistic approach tends to exist in a sytem where health — rather than profits — is the priority of the healthcare system.
After all, with a **for-profit** healthcare system, a sick population (with chronic conditions that need to be “treated” for life, no less) is precisely what they want.
X2. But then we have our new national healthcare, which is insurance based. And this is why I have an issue w/it. They are in business solely to make money.
But now that the insurers are required to cover everyone, with limits on what they can charge, as well as no longer being able to put lifetime caps on what they will pay, along with not being able to drop people who become ill, it becomes in their best interest to actually want people to be and stay healthy.

I don’t mind when my bosses tell me to do something, but I do feel it shows some respect when they add “please” at the beginning.
To clarify, this would only apply to written requests/commands.
Ok, I thought about this some more, and I don’t think “please” is necessary in a relationship where mutual respect has already been established. In fact it would almost come across as pleading/whining.
