By Jim FinkleBOSTON (Reuters) – Cisco Systems Inc is expected to cut thousands of jobs in possibly its worst-ever round of layoffs to meet Chief Executive John Chambers’ goal of slashing costs by $1 billion.
Four analysts contacted by Reuters estimated the world’s largest maker of network equipment will eliminate up to 4,000 jobs in coming months, with the average forecast at 3,000. That would represent 4 percent of Cisco’s 73,000 permanent workers. It also has an undisclosed number of temporary contractors.

October 27, 2011 at 4:16 PM #731431UCGalParticipantI guess since it’s in the 10Q – it’s public knowledge.
Item 5. Other Information.
On October 24, 2011, Company management approved a workforce reduction action under which the Company will record a net pre-tax charge to earnings during the quarter ended December 31, 2011, of approximately $31 million, comprised of $27 million of severance costs related to approximately 800 employees impacted by the action and approximately $4 million of facility exit costs. Both of the Company’s business segments (the Mobile Devices business and the Home business), as well as various corporate functions, are impacted by the action and the action affects employees globally. Under the Company’s employee severance plan, policies or applicable law, severance payments to employees affected by this action will be made substantially over the next 12 months.
They did not waste ANY time. It’s been an interesting week at work. Seems like it was spread across every group.

I’m ok *this time*. It hit my group. It looks like it was about 10% of employees in San Diego. Lots of rumors that this was just the beginning. But rumors come and go…I’m getting my backup plan in order, just in case.
August 13, 2012 at 3:55 PM #750201UCGalParticipantLooks like Mot Mobility/Google had fun today.
My group was hit – but I survived. (So far.)Mobile devices group here in San Diego was decimated if rumors are to be believed. (I work for the cable side.)
My Schwab financial adviser called me to make sure I was ok – she’d been getting calls from clients who work here and want to know about rolling their 401ks.
The press (various articles) says 4000 jobs worldwide from Mot mobility. 1300 or so from the US. 700 from Illinois according to the Chicago Tribune. If rumors are to be believed it’s about 200 from San Diego.

You heard the the latest rumors on what Sanjay is up to? 🙂 If it turns out to be good, well it might be good.

Wife reports the same about Mobility. Almost entire group layed off.
So many people got fired she is wondering where she is working next as she can’t imagine that they will be keeping the buildings.
