Just moved from the Bay Area. I noticed that conservatives up there have their knives out for Boudin. Didn’t think much of him, until I saw this report about the SFPD refusing to help bust the ringleader of a car burglary syndicate.
https://www.kron4.com/news/bay-area/boudin-forced-to-rent-u-haul-because-sfpd-too-busy-to-help-with-bust/Seems like the PD response to budget cuts is to just refuse to do their jobs. Makes me think of the Uvalde police hanging back while the shooter went in and killed all those kids. People who refuse to do their jobs should be fired, IMO.

I don’t think they have any legal duty to rush into harms way.
But anyway, 911 is a joke, according to PUBLIC ENEMY.
Cool song, 911 is a joke, really old, guess we are all just figuring that out.

I think the job thing is more “unable to” — someone who’s been sleeping rough for a year or more doesn’t interview well. Connect them to services that will allow them to clean up, have a safe indoor place to shower, and become employable.
Again – how should this be FIXED other than warehousing people in jail, which isn’t a long-term solution?
At 40K income, the ACA subsidy is:
You are likely eligible for financial help
Based on the information you provided, your income is equal to 311% of the poverty level. This means you are likely eligible for financial help through the Health Insurance Marketplace. An estimate of your cost for coverage and amount of financial help in 2022 are provided below. To find out your actual amount of financial help and to get coverage, you must go to Healthcare.gov or your state’s Health Insurance Marketplace.Estimated financial help:
$103
per month ($1,237 per year) as a premium tax credit. This covers 33% of the monthly costs.
Your cost for a silver plan:
$209
per month ($2,504 per year) in premiums (which equals 6.26% of your household income).
The most you have to pay for a silver plan:
6.26%
of income for the second-lowest cost silver plan
Without financial help, your silver plan would cost:
$312
per month ($3,741 per year)May 30, 2022 at 4:54 PM #825782EscoguyParticipant
God I hate to sound like my right wing friends when they say this but freedom isn’t free! You enjoy the safety and structure of this great country yet you want it to be like more socialistic European countries that don’t have what we have here. Somebody’s got to work and pay the bills and by your own admission you never really have. People go to work. Freedom isn’t free
You’re probably just in the sane middle.
Moderate doesn’t mean indecisive or unprincipled.
Sometimes a moderate who reflects on all facts has a stronger rational foundation, seeing society from multiple perspectives simultaneously, finding a workable solution that creates the best outcome for all with normal compromises.

LoL, F-NO!
I could go for a quick phased in approach.
A very basic heated structure, which is easily cleaned for a 1-3 week detox.
Move to progressively better/more privacy as milestones are met.Conditional can work for some and completely unconditional isn’t workable for the facility and staff, but key concepts from both might come together.
May 30, 2022 at 5:09 PM #825784EscoguyParticipant
Living in the city sucks. I don’t know why my sibling insists in staying in SF and not moving to the burbs. They are paying an arm an a leg for something slightly smaller than my old house in Pac. Heights and then on top of that has to send both their kids to private schools because most public schools suck in the city. The amount they spend on private K-12 will be on the order of how much people would be spending sending them to a private college on the east coast.
I guess it could be worse. At least they don’t live in NYC anymore. What an armpit.Makes no sense.
Was out ubering a few days ago, picked up a SF transplant, he and his spouse paid $5700/month in San Francisco for $700 sf, now live in Santaluz, probably a $2.5M house.
As he has roots here and has been back two years, he was bemoaning all the other Bay Area people coming in. Apparently, there is still a wave incoming as prices are still so much higher and they come see SD, and never want to go back.

I have to admit, escoguy….
It is so fvcking awesome you Uber drive…. Most of the people who you pick up don’t even know how well off you are.I swear, you should consider doing a “Cash Cab” like game show.
Can I trade free DIY auto repair/service with free rides to the airport?? 🙂
May 31, 2022 at 8:34 AM #825787gzzParticipantEsco, I don’t know if SF city is even higher than SD now.
Spend 10 minutes browsing Zillow, they seem about the same now for condos.
Us going up 50-70% when SF is flat will do that.
SF outperformed us in the prior 2010-2017 period however.
I also spent a few minutes looking Manhattan. Lots of co-op listings below 2017-2018 prior sale prices. Some down 25% from prior sales. I was just randomly browsing the 1 to 1.5 submarket. Giant inventory too.
May 31, 2022 at 9:29 AM #825788flyerParticipantIt seems to be true that many are still relocating to San Diego, and other SoCal coastal cities from the Bay Area. Have quite a few family members who have moved here from there in the past few years, as San Diego has been a total bargain, comparatively speaking. Even some in Marin County are considering a move. Most in Napa and Sonoma plan to stay up there per our last visits.

Funny that you should mention this flyer, that some of your friends in your sphere are interested in relocating down here….because while it does seem like the quasi-wealthy people from bay area might be interested in relocating down here, the old tech wealthy have no interest in relocating down here. My cousin has no interest in relocating from Los Altos Hills. He’s been there in the Bay Area since the early 80ies and was an early exec of ECAD before it merged with SDA and became Cadence Design Systems. Has no interest in relocating anywhere to save on a few pennies. Flyer, your friends sound like Silicon Valley peasants, relatively speaking. Just kidding, sort of.
May 31, 2022 at 12:18 PM #825790flyerParticipantJust as so many of the wealthy in the Bay Area, many of my cousins and others whose families wealth predated the arrival of tech, seemed to be ready for a change, and I think some of the negative issues going up there helped them make their decisions.
Since they can live anywhere they wish, and still keep their other properties, some of which they are renting to the techies, they have been motivated to make some changes in their lives for various reasons, none of which have anything to do with finances, and they are very happy with their choices, so, all is well. They especially love now having homes by our beautiful beaches, and that was another big determining factor vs. staying in SFO.

Pfff. The biggest money was not earned here in the States, but over in China. Said cousin and relatives dumped a bundle on entire neighborhood block in Suzhou, China before the factories moved in, where first factory an airline seat manufacturer that moved manufacturing from US there. Lakefront property that was not available to foreign investors, $200k USD that subsequently rented for $5000/month to expats, where value currently sits roughly at 17.5k RMB per sq meter.
I wish I could have gotten in, but again, not available to foreigners…I guess that’s why people here tried to invest in china a decade late… Picking up after the scraps what people there don’t want and try to pawn off to a bigger foreign sucker…Poor foreign investors of Evergrande.
May 31, 2022 at 12:40 PM #825792flyerParticipantThat’s wonderful. Sounds like we’re all very happy with everything we have, and our fantastic lives.
May 31, 2022 at 1:26 PM #825794sdrealtorParticipantI understand how tough it can be up there. One of my childhood friends lives up in Woodside and wanted to build a 2nd tennis court on his 5 acre property but was not allowed. He was gonna move but bought the property next to him so now they have 2 courts
