Make the legislature part-time and pay them less. They are a bunch of worthless, bureaucratic pogues who are living off the dole anyway. Get rid of illegals in prison and no welfare for non citizens, that would empty the prisons, cut costs and improve the environment.

Except government employment is a *huge* part of the San Diego economy!
Why do so many people here think that government is just this big hole that money disappears into and is never seen again? Government employees pay rent and buy housing, goods and services. They don’t operate in a vacuum.
Unless the SD private sector derives all its income from outside the state or country they are going to lose money one way or the other.

January 24, 2008 at 4:10 PM #142396kev374ParticipantCalifornia state income tax at 9.3% is already among the highest in the country, if they raise taxes I’m thinking it will just exacerbate the outmigration of skilled professionals from CA. That will do more harm in the long run.
