Oh, and btw, it’s not uncommon to get 29 mpg on the open road in the first-gen LS. Yes, that’s for an 8 cylinder eng :=)
Same with Corvettes.
And I meant to say the car is a 99, not an 89. Sorry, got my decades mixed up.
Well in that case, $4K sounds like a great deal, even though it obviously wasn’t garaged π
Forget all the usual merely annoying problems I just mentioned as they don’t apply to this model year. I would just get the timing belt/water pump replaced if it hasn’t been done. I wouldn’t take it on a long trip until that job was done. Your son doesn’t want to have any sudden overheating problems that could have been avoided. The cost for the repair of both starts at about $1275.
Your son’s car still has the longer body before they made it “bubbly” looking and appeared to shove some of the big trunk under the back seat :=]
I’m not so sure it wasn’t garaged at night, maybe not during the day.
It is a 3 owner car – first owner had it 10K miles, third owner inherited it from the second owner. Third owner was a mechanic and timing belt has been done. There is not a single door ding on it and it has original paint, so someone took very good care of it – the missing clear coat, cracked dash and seat were not due to misuse.
Edmunds says it has a trade-in value of $4700, private party sale value of $5700, and a retail value of $6900. But even back in the KBB days, local conditions varied quite a bit so value estimates have to be taken with a grain of salt. But no matter how you stack it, he didn’t overpay at $4K.

Occasionally, some may see commercials on television or advertisements in the paper or online for zero percent APR auto loans, such as Toyota zero percent financing being offered right now on TV.
