Regardless, it is taught in some US places and political correctness doesn’t come into it.
As long as it’s NOT a mandatory requirement as part of a broad sweeping federal education program, and as long as it is elective per state/district/county, it IS about political correctness.
The only way you FIX people who have money management problems is if you FORCE people to take a course on it across the country, no different than ensuring any any sort of minimum level of education about any other sort of topic in a public school.

Why don’t you take a poll on somewhere other than piggington and find out.
I’m pretty sure if Johnny comes hope and tells daddy/mommy that racking up $20k in credit card debt is a terrible/stupid thing is probably not going to go so well for Johnny’s daddy/mommy swimming in $20k in credit card debt…
Heck, you even got these jokers who think they shouldn’t make certain STEMS required if their kid isn’t going to study STEMS.
“The author of the post below wrote that an official at his son’s Maryland high school told him that chemistry was a required course in the state, and as a result, his son took chemistry. Bill Reinhard, spokesman for the Maryland State Department of Education, says there is no specific chemistry mandate, though high school students must take three credits of science to graduate, one of which must be biology. The author, David Bernstein, says the post is less about chemistry and more about the notion of mandating specific courses.”

Oh well, not my problem and not my kid’s problem I guess.
Are you sure? You’re obviously not reading the news reports about the Pro-Obama supporters getting upset because their policy got cancelled, or their policy price jumped…
November 14, 2013 at 1:50 PM #767883spdrunParticipantOoooookkkkk, and what does Obamacare have to do with health ed curriculum in schools, or is this just pure, unlubricated trolling?
November 14, 2013 at 2:38 PM #767884scaredyclassicParticipantI’m sick of anti drug education. Mainly cause its lame. The anti drug Ed I got in jus made us all laugh out loud. I believe it encouraged drug use.
I would prefer to handle the issue myself.
November 14, 2013 at 2:39 PM #767885scaredyclassicParticipantTo the OP: the ex. Does seem to suggest that gay people are normal.
That was radical 30 years ago… Not today.

Flu was saying the general lack of financial awareness wasn’t going to be his kids problem.
That’s blatantly wrong, as evidenced by the chronic number is people, on both sides, that end up surprised at the financial cost of anything.
It may be elsewhere that I’ve snarked about it being their problem because misinformed people vote, in large numbers.

I do care about the general direction of education in as much as it doesn’t impact me and my kid negatively.
And I do generally care about about people who want to be helped and have the patience/energy to learn something that they don’t know about.
But as far as my own kid, I don’t think little FLU will be getting anything short of a financial education. Afterall, little FLU already knows what taxes are… 🙂
The “not my problem” is the part where if public schools don’t want to teach personal finance, and if parents insist on keeping that sort of material out of the classroom, and if same parents don’t bother/can’t teach their kids about debt ,well what else can you do?

As far as obamacare. Meh. I don’t care. It’s the law, deal with it.
November 14, 2013 at 4:25 PM #767888FlyerInHiGuestspd, I love that De Blasio was elected mayor of NYC. I guess his wife used to be lesbian. His family reflects the changing demographics of America.
Education should reflect demographics so children are aware of what’s out there.

I don’t know if “used to be lesbian” is as accurate as “was wired to be bisexual and unaware of it.” Don’t know if that’s accurate either, it’s probably more like a scale where 10 is 100% gay and 0 is 100% het, she may have thought she was 10 but really she was 7 or 8 and happened to meet a compatible life partner who was the opposite gender.
I guess “used to IDENTIFY as a lesbian” would be accurate. But yeah, hoping that DeBlasio will correct the worst mistakes of the Bloomberg admin while keeping the city relatively friendly to business.

November 14, 2013 at 6:25 PM #767892njtosdParticipantOk – nobody responded to my earlier point, and I’m curious as to why not (maybe i’m boring . . .). Would the people on this board be ok if the family was polygamous (i.e. more than 2 people)? If all the members of the family are fine with it, shouldn’t that be ok to include in a children’s book?
November 14, 2013 at 6:31 PM #767893spdrunParticipantPersonally, I have zero problem with polygamy among consenting adults. Americans are very hypocritical about it, since they already practice serial (vs parallel) polygamy.
I may add that the Torah and Bible make mention of polygamy, so any child with an Abrahamic religious education is already exposed to the mention of such.
