My husband and I aren’t nearly as committed as you Ox but in general I agree. I was a late adopter and other than when work paid for my blackberry, I either didn’t have a phone or had a prepaid Tracfone. My husband has never bought a cel phone and has only ever had one through work, reluctantly.
I barely ever use my phone and it’s more of an emergency type thing. I loathe even carrying the thing around because unlike most women, I hate even having a purse (though I also reluctantly have one of those too).
But I have to admit that there are a handful of rare times when I’m glad I did have that phone I hate to carry around. But there are also about the same amount of times where I was calling someone in need (not a 911 emergency situation) and the phone was basically no help because I either didn’t have a connection, had a bad connection, or the person didn’t pick up.

November 11, 2010 at 10:06 AM #629394briansd1GuestOne thing to be careful about the cell phone: it’s a tracking device.
If you’re having an affair, your jealous spouse could easily plant one in your car and find out where you’ve been.
I remember when they were advertising cell phones for safety. I knew that people would use it for tracking, just because they can.
If your employer pays for your phone, they can find out where you go.
