Safety…You should have one as a simple matter of safety…Stranded on the freeway?? coordinate airport pickup of unwanted relatives…child care?? track your teenage daughter on saturday night with the GPS….
I agree that I would not really want one but you have to be practical..

November 11, 2010 at 8:29 AM #629299UCGalParticipantOx – I’m not quite as luddite as you – but close. I have a cell – but it’s dumb… it does calls and txts – but no surfing, email, etc. Only a small circle of people have the #.
My thinking is like Ox’s… I don’t need to be that connected. There are places the phone should NOT reach you. (Pet peeve of mine – cell phone use in public (or private) restrooms.)
It’s convenient, though, to be able to call up the hubster while at the grocery store and confirm that we need more milk, or if we have enough…
My mid-80’s mother in law is a cell phone addict… although she hasn’t mastered texting. She loves being able to call friends around the country as she and my father in law are riding the MTS to the VA hospital or some such.

November 11, 2010 at 8:41 AM #629304jstoeszParticipantyou guys are crazy. I am not a tech weenie by any stretch of the imagination, but the smart phone is my savior.
I am one of those people that loses and forgets everything! I lost a car once…twice…
My life has gone so much smoother in the last year and a half, it is amazing. I can sympathize with people not wanting to be reached. But that is what turning off the power/turning off the ringer is for.
The absolute best thing is being able to change plans at the drop of a hat…
