You’ve offered yourself as a “true progressive” and apparently rock ribbed in your beliefs and yet now we’re treated to this tepid bleating as Obama sells you and the independents down the river.
My ideals are progressive. But I’m mostly pragmatic.
You can’t have everything in life. I would take Obama any day over any of the viable alternative presidential candidates.
No one man (or God) will bring you what you want so stop wishing and praying. Good things in life come in increments. You have to work hard at it.
It would do no good for Obama to wage war on the banking industry. That would constrict credit even more and lead to further economic decline and stagnation. Poverty would increase and we’d be worse off as a society.
If Obama wants to get reelected, he needs to get economic growth going again (even if as a temporary bubble) about 1 year before the presidential campaign. The reality is that if Obama doesn’t get reelected, he won’t be able to implement any his goals for the country.
As much as I find the bailout of the bankers distasteful, that’s economically the right thing to do. Credit is the fuel of the economy and getting it flowing again is the key to economic revival.
The other side of me wished that banks and GSEs had been allowed to fail, and bankers put in jail. There would have been a McCarthy type inquest into the fraud in banking and real estate. Neighbors would have been able to turn-in fraudster Realtors and liar loan applicants. I would have picked-up some nice properties at 80% off. 😉 Wishful thinking….

GuestArraya, what about nuclear energy?
I think that if it comes down to doing what is absolutely necessary to preserve our way of life, we’ll just somehow deal with the nuclear waste.
We polluted the earth to get the industrial revolution going at all costs. If we need to go nuclear, I’m sure that we will.
I agree with you that our way of life is not the most “humane” or sustainable very long term, but that’s for another debate.
I’m sorry but I’m sure most of us would rather live in our luxury houses rather than some modest huts somewhere. Let the future generations deal with the end results.

Come on, you can do it. Think for yourself.
Given that your typical M.O. is to simply cut and paste (or provide a link to) what someone else has written, this is unintentionally humorous.
