Yes, I agree Arraya.
People are easily influenced and attitudes can shift over time.
I was talking about Ron Paul in the context of our media culture today.
But still we live in a television world. There’s a limit to how “old and folksy” can be marketed as attractive.
I read a paper about how politicians have to be attractive but not too attractive. Psychologically people will view beautiful politicians as fake. They want attractive candidates they can relate with. But people don’t mind beautiful movie stars because they know that films are fake and they want the sex appeal.
If I were an adviser to Michele Bachmann, I’d tell her to dress more simply. Like Cindy McCain, Michele Bachmann is too fashion conscious; and that could be a turn off to voters.
What’s interesting about businesses is that they are always looking for that marginal growth. They will go where the growth is. So their interests can change with demographics.

August 17, 2011 at 12:57 PM #720418ArrayaParticipantMan, that Ron Paul has appeal in the heartland. There is something about him that really resonates with the red states. I don’t know if it’s his inherently honest nature or what. But, I tell you what, people really love him.
That must be the reason he keeps winning straw polls over and over again with NO media support. His appeal with the fly over states is so strong he ALMOST beat Bachmann in her home state. That is how much people love is disposition. It’s so natural it markets itself. You don’t even need to talk it up. People just flock to him.

August 17, 2011 at 1:08 PM #720428The-ShovelerParticipantOur Debt (the Truth) it’s not sexy and it does not make a good sound bite.
The USA owns more than 80% of it’s own debt(well at least the US citizens personally do), China the biggest holder outside of the U.S.A owns the most but it’s still less than 8%.

China really does not finance us WE DO !!
They are far more reliant of us than we are on them.
I will vote for the first candidate who will define the current problem correctly.
We have a chicken and egg problem, and definitely no one wants to talk about it.
You have to fix housing or wait for it to fix itself that is the only way you will get out of the current high unemployment problems (and no there are not too many houses at least not in socal).August 17, 2011 at 1:08 PM #720520The-ShovelerParticipantOur Debt (the Truth) it’s not sexy and it does not make a good sound bite.
