“Why the heck did they attach abolishing rent control as a rider?”
I really wish they hadn’t done this, because it’s what doomed it to failure. An up-down vote on the use of eminent domain to give land to private developers would have been nice. My problem with prop 99 is that it only applies to owner-occupied residences.
Even though I personally agreed with the rent control provision, I knew that it was dooming the proposition. BTW the proposition does have a grandfather clause built in (if you bothered to read it), so I’m not sure why somebody said that it didn’t.
