While Congress scrambles to plug more money into the “cash for clunkers” program, an Obama administration official said today the popular trade-in program is still running.
The House of Representatives will vote today on a measure to add $2 billion from federal stimulus funds to the “cash for clunkers” program, according to the office of U.S. Rep. Bruce Braley. The Waterloo Democrat is an original co-sponsor of the legislation creating the program.
The Senate is expected to take up the measure next week, a spokesman, Jeff Giertz, said.
The “cash for clunkers” initiative, officially called the Car Allowance Rebate System, or CARS, has proved popular with the public.

I don’t think that it’s illegal… But the problem are the sales taxes and use taxes.
When you transfer cars between unrelated individuals, you have to pay use taxes all over again.
I’m all for doing everything that is legal. But I don’t advocate lying to avoid taxes.
