End of the month is always move in/move out time. Pre-COVID, there were always a couple moving trucks on my block at the end of the month — also, it was the best time to pick up “used furniture,” if you know what I mean.

What remains to be seen is whether the trend will reverse once the CV panic is over.

North Dakota and Kansas were unexpected on the outbound chart. I think the oil glut explains the ND numbers – oil workers are going back home. Not sure what explains Kansas.

I’ve been watching Louis Rossman videos on NYC. He’s not fair and balanced at all, but he does have an interesting perspective.

I guess I like him because he’s so anti-Apple. 🙂

IMO this whole inner city revival thing was way over hyped from the start (at least on the west coast anyway).

Most people still want to live in the burbs with a three car garage, good sized yard etc.. if they can afford it anyway.

I think it has to do with what stage of life they are in. I know many co-workers in their 20s who lived in and were all about downtown SD or Little Italy or PB.

By then they turned 30, got married, have kids on the way, and they’ve all left for the suburbs: Poway, Penasquitos, RB, 78 corridor. As you say, the garage and yard start speaking to them in a big way.

Just from a practical stand point the SD downtown area can hold maybe 1 to maybe 3% of the population of SD county.
Probably in LA downtown maybe less than 1% of the population of LA.

Agree and will add best not to take housing advice from 40 year old single guys who never had kids that are commenting on places they’ve never lived

also, my wife and kids were net moneymakers for me. She makes money. The kids make me get up and work every day. I never wouldve bought a giant mansion without my crazy wife. i probably wouldnt have even gotten a 401k. i wouldnt have gone to law school. i certainly never wouldve kept working. i would probably still be eating crap like i used to. She checks me for odd moles. Sometimes we even have sex. I mean, come on, man, it can be a drain, adn there’s a lot of negative but often a partner is helpful.

on the other ahnd, i saw a truly HILARIOUS movie last night. vintage italian comedy, DIVORCE ITALIAN STYLE with marcello mastroianni. 100% rotten tomatoes. funny. not quite as funny as KIND HEARTS AND CORONETS, also seen recently, but close.

Put in time now or put in time later, there is no free lunch (well, at least most of the time). I keep hearing people refer to work while they are younger as ball and chain. The funny part is that ball and chain exists for a lot of people a lot longer who didn’t put the time up front, it’s just stretched out over a longer period of time, lol.

So, the sooner you accrue your money and save, the less you’d have to work.
