[quote]San Francisco on the other hand is a like cultural beacon of light. People there tend to be highly educated and in tune with the latest happenings in the world of fine arts and culture, in addition to being on the bleeding edge of technology.

That’s funny!August 25, 2008 at 8:56 AM #261379TuVuParticipantWow. This turned into a really interesting thread despite my whining. For the record, I didn’t choose to live in San Diego. My parents did. WWII vets, they met when they were in college on the GI bill and my mom wouldn’t marry my dad until he promised they would live in San Diego (where my mom had been stationed). She had just had enough of the crappiest weather on earth. I have always lived here except for my college years and a few years after that.
I often muse about living elsewhere because San Diego has changed so much. These days, you have to plan everything around the traffic, but that’s true in L.A. and S.F., too. At any rate, we aren’t gonna move till my father (who is ancient, obviously) dies. I think I will be happier when we retire, don’t have to commute, and can get anywhere we need to go via a golf cart.

August 25, 2008 at 8:59 AM #261389TuVuParticipantForgot to add that I once saw a survey that showed that most East Coasters who came to California in the 50s/60s chose the Bay Area, while most Midwesterners chose So Cal. I wonder why.
