UCGalParticipant
I would think that after the bottom hits areas that are closer in will do better than areas further out… And schools matter.
Perhaps it’s my bias, but the new construction vs older construction thing doesn’t hold as much water. There are plenty of 20+ year old homes in UC, Point Loma, Mission Hills that will hold their value and bounce back, despite being older because they have good schools and are close in.
Of course if gas goes back to under $2/gallon, my theory falls apart.

UCGalParticipantI don’t know if this is typical but I have friends, in their mid-30’s, 3 kids, who’ve been sitting by the sidelines during the extreme prices and are now in escrow on a forclosed house.
They lived in a smaller house than they wanted in order to max out their savings. They’re going in with a $50k downpayment.
I know a couple of other friends in similar positions but not yet in escrow… been renting and living in much smaller spaces than they’d prefer, in an effort to save down payments… now hoping to pick up a better deal with their down payments, but waiting for the right home. All of them are married with kids.

UCGalParticipantYou can see what is or isn’t on your credit report for free, once a year.
http://www.annualcreditreport.com
(Make sure you don’t accidentally sign up for a subscription service… you have to hunt for the “free” buttons with each agency.)
You can add notes/explanations to the report for anything in dispute.
Before you worry about fixing the credit report – see what’s actually on it. I thought (but very well could be wrong) that late payments went away after 5 years – so your soon-to-be-ex’s late payment issue might not show.

UCGalParticipantI’ve been following several EV’s that might hit the market soon.
There’s the Zap X
http://www.zapworld.com/zap-x-crossoverAnd the Zap Alias
http://www.zapworld.com/electric-vehicles/electric-cars/zap-alias
(the price on this one is interesting. The Fisker Karma that someone else mentioned.
http://www.fiskerautomotive.com/The non-vaporware Tesla. (But you need to be wealthy to afford it.)
http://www.teslamotors.com/Toyota is still talking about a plug in prius – but it’s date seems to keep moving out.
I have a hybrid, but at some point in the next several years we’ll need to replace my husbands old truck with something that will fit a family of 4. We’re hoping to get a plug in hybrid or full blown EV.
