I was too conservative for an ARM…..hindsight’s 20/20, coulda, woulda, shoulda…..still too conservative (read chicken).
But hey I just spent the day bombing down the MTB park at Whistler, so not all chicken!

Sebonic is still showing 3.25 with $1 in fees (not including 3rd party) and a $1989 credit.
Would seem like some lender would see some value in offering us a group discount??
treehuggerParticipantAppears sebonic is holding the lead with 3.25 and almost $2000 credit, if it holds til I get back to the States on Thursday I think I will pull the trigger.
treehuggerParticipant

Driving for Uber is a choice, I don’t understand the controversy? Go get a job at a regular taxi service and/or only use regular taxi service if you feel so strongly against Uber. As a driver you sign up to drive for a service where tips are not expected, so why am I taking a flat fee service and putting a tip on top of it? Like anything in the service industry a tip should be earned not expected.
I have an app, I type in where I want to go, it tells me how much the ride will cost and someone comes and picks me up. There is a picture w/description of driver and reviews, I appreciate that a lot more than a regular taxi service (which I have taken in the past and been scared by my non-English speaking drivers). I have used it in various cities to get around, few miles here or there it was convenient and cheap, even with surge pricing. If we had a really engaging driver we gave them a tip otherwise no I did not tip nor did I feel obligated to. If drivers don’t like that don’t drive for Uber.
I am not sympathetic to the lawsuit.
I think the overall problem is there are very few decent jobs now for most folks so some people do Uber just because they don’t see any/much other options in terms of work…
I’d think most people wouldn’t do Uber if they didn’t have to honestly. No benefits, pay gets cut without ANY control to you (I think this is where they should lose in any lawsuit as realtors or consultants can definitely setup their pay rates, etc…and have more freedom as independent contractors…)
The problem was cabs were a rip off and didn’t drive everywhere. Uber comes and messes everyone up and skirting all the labor laws IMO and the pay for these guys BEFORE any car expenses is pretty pathetic IMO.
As I have family driving full time for Uber, I think the company is a crock and until you do the math or know people personally who drive it full time, you really don’t know what it’s like and from reading your post, just come off as elitist and with the mindset of, don’t like it, then don’t drive it (which is true to a point though…)
I honestly hope the company crashes and burns.
If the company crashes and burns then your family that drives for Uber is out of a job. Nice.
Uber is a luxury to me and as an elitist I can choose to indulge in a luxury or not. If I needed to I could drive myself, walk, ride a bike, take a bus/cab/train……
You are trying to argue from the drivers perspective and I don’t know anyone that drives for Uber you are correct, although most of the drivers I have experienced were exceptionally nice and really seemed to enjoy what they did, everyone I met did it as a part time gig many to off-set the car payment of a nice car by working a few hours here or there when their schedule permitted. I maintain that they have a choice and the choice is someone sitting around without a job or wanting extra income decides to drive for Uber (known for non-tipping) or not….I choose to take Uber and I appreciate the way it works, if I get good service I will give a good tip, otherwise no I do not feel a tip is required.
Life is all about choices, if that makes me an elitist so be it I will own it.
treehuggerParticipantI agree with a lot of what BG said. I am a successful college educated woman and tout girl-power all the way!!!! I have a visceral distaste for Hillary. I have watched her over the years and I have no doubt that she and Bill have a successful partnership, just as I have no doubt that she is smart and will likely be fine as president. Unfortunately, I also believe that she has sold her soul to the devil to get where she is and she firmly believes she deserves this. Well, when you sell your soul the devil comes calling….
It makes me sad that she has so much power and ability and instead of finding someone from the rank and file (a strong, intelligent, commanding woman would’ve been amazing) and mentoring them over the years and pushing them forward to be president of this great nation, she is so narcissistic that she put herself forward and tears everyone else down.
I like Bernie, not that I think he will be a good president, but because he is honest and has been touting the same message for 40+ years (I don’t really even agree with him on everything, but I respect him) I think he got into the race with the best of intentions, to further what he believes in and fight for it. I think he can stand proud that Hillary has been pulled closer to his leftist ideas just to keep relevant and prove she will do anything to win. I like him and will vote for him June 7th, because I do not think he will win, but I want to be heard. What I want our politicians to hear is ENOUGH YOU CRAZY BASTARDS. Why do you think Trump and Bernie are doing so well, the American people, myself included, are tired of the games.
I am sad that in Nov I likely will cast my vote for Hillary. I wish Trump would get some good advisors and act like a grown-up, his mean spirited high school mentality name calling offends me at a core level that won’t allow me to see him for anything else. I have never accepted bullying to myself or anyone else (as a child or as an adult), I teach my children it is wrong and if someone is being mean you step in and stop it, to stand-by and do nothing makes you guilty and less of a person. To many people are standing by. I find it repugnant to have to watch this elitist piece of sh*& say mean things and bestow his honorific nicknames on to anyone who disagrees with him. Hey what’s up lard-ass, what’s going on zit-face….it is plain mean and wrong and for that reason I will vote for Hillary, whom I detest.

May 25, 2016 at 9:56 AM in reply to: The dire climate of CA public university admissions for freshmen #798035treehuggerParticipantRead the first page, then couldn’t follow the whole train…we are currently looking at college options for our HS junior and wondering if I am being naïve or what else we should look for or consider as we move forward?
My top pick is CSU San Marcos, as of 2014 they have an Environmental Studies Program and she can live at home.
I am also trying to encourage her to enroll at Palomar and/or Mira Costa this week to take an easy GE class or 2 over the summer.
From what I am seeing with her grades and SAT scores (CSU San Marcos does not require the writing portion to be considered), she has a solid chance of getting in.

uirementstreehuggerParticipantI would not take it as a red flag, I think most people are more likely to post a bad review than a good.
I have used VRBO and they seem reputable, perhaps Google if their clients/owners are allowed to remove bad reviews?
treehuggerParticipantWhy not be house proud??
I am very proud: I worked hard and earned my money. I bought my first house, that I could afford, with conventional financing (thank you HLS). I am proud that I gutted that house and remodeled (did most of the work ourselves) and sold that house, made money, moved to a neighborhood we like better. I am proud that I found a foreclosure, was able to afford it, again conventional financing. I have proceeded to gut the place and remodel (again most of the work has been done by me and my husband).
I have a house we love, in a neighborhood we love, on a great big lot, lots of privacy, we installed a pool, I have a 3 car garage (which we park our cars in every night), live next to open space, I have savings/retirement accounts, and my neighbors are awesome. I married my best friend, recycled 2 children and 3 dogs. I did have a mid-life crisis last year and bought a Mercedes, but otherwise I tend towards good decisions.
What is there not to be proud of? I am definitely house proud.
treehuggerParticipantHere I am nearly 4 years later…..we bought the house, but did not termite tent when we bought.
Now I am about to replace the last section of wood fence (which is the shared fence with the neighbors and is termite ridden) and getting ready to termite treat the house and I searched this site to see if any advice and find my old posting!
Anybody tented recently? any recommendations?
treehuggerParticipantI have 2 friends looking for houses right now and my cousin just bought….none are in your area and I am not familiar with the area; however, if priced right the houses are selling fast, even if they need work.
My cousin who just bought (southpark) and both buddies who are looking (Oceanside and Chula Vista/La Mesa areas) have put in multiple (+10) offers on homes and lost, in my opinion the homes they were bidding on needed way to much work, but they are frantic to buy something, anything and it seems to be a feeding frenzy out there right now!
Have you looked on redfin? You can put your own address in and it will pull up neighborhood comps, that way you can see what has sold around you-condition, sq ft, price, etc and get an idea if just listing the house is going to get you the price you want/need or allow you to evaluate if you want to put in any work….an easy way to get a realistic feel for the market around you.
treehuggerParticipantSpoke with another buddy who is trying to buy in Chula Vista or La Mesa area, he has put in 11 offers in the last few weeks.
I am so glad I am not looking to buy a house right now!
treehuggerParticipantThe EPA is corrupt and people are stupid.
Let’s bring back DDT and hey move back to Love Canal while we use it!

treehuggerParticipantNot close to Reno and kinda out on it’s own, but I love Squaw for the atmosphere and amenities. I still consider it family friendly and not completely overrun by snowboarders. Depending on when you go and age of your kids Northstar if they are older and want to snowboard is a good bet. My kids and hubby snowboard, and I fall a lot, otherwise I stick to skis.
