ParticipantI thought we were to avoid Plasma TVs? I am tech challenged, but am in the same boat. Looking to get a flat screen (refused to shop black friday) and was hoping that Americans would defy the consumer hype enmasse, allowing me to catch an awesome deal right after Christmas…..yeah I know, I still haven’t bought a house for the same logic.
Anyway, I am now considering cashing in my credit card points to get one (that and two ipod shuffles.)
This is the model I am considering and am wondering if anyone has any thoughts? Is it worthwhile to get 1080 vs 720? Is there a big difference between 37″ vs 42″??
LG 42″ HD 1080p LCD TV Features 1080p resolution, 50,000:1 contrast ratio, HDMI™ v.1.3 with Deep Color, 24p Real Cinema mode, and an invisible speaker system with Dolby® Digital 5.1 and Clear voice for richer more balanced sound. Includes remote control and stand.treehugger

ParticipantWow! Some of these posts are just so……. inane. I live in the area and that proposed corner lot is a part of my normal routine driving, running, and biking area. It is a very nice area, safe, and quiet. Absolutely not the type of place that needs a Walmart, Trader Joes, Vons, whatever.
Yes, there are multiple Walmarts and Targets just around the corner. there is a new Target, Ralph’s, and Trader Joe’s just off of Palomar Airport Road.
I happen to be someone that loves Carlsbad and the Calavera Preserve that this site backs up to is priceless. Within 3 miles of my house is the Ocean, miles of running/hiking/biking trails, and yes Walmart and Target. I get the best of everything and my neighbors are nice, friendly, secure people. I can go for a run after dark and not worry (I do have a large dog that I bring along). I don’t think I would have that same level of confidence in “South Oceanside”.
I am in no way bashing Walmart (although personally I avoid it as much as possible, but that is because I am not emotionally equipped for the onslaught when I go in there and it stresses me out).

ParticipantI feel your pain, I have put in several offers and am at a loss. I am going conventional, due to all the issues with FHA etc. The competition is fierce for anything that is in a decent neighborhood and reasonably priced. The properties literally go in hours! Search that against anything overpriced, sits for months.
On the VA note, a friend of mine is a marine up on Pendleton, was having the same problem, no one would accept an offer with a VA loan. He ended up finding a retired marine, that was selling reasonable, guy gave him a good deal and accepted a VA loan, even though there were some hangups and variances with the appraisal. I guess it is true, once a marine always a marine….it was pretty cool to hear how some people still have ethics.
