Wow, paramount, you doubled down, good for you, I think you will look back in ten years and be happy you did. Your old “throw my sucker in the sand” and short sale plan just didn’t pencil out, you weren’t as screwed as you sometimes think. You are probably cash nuetral with the one you are renting out if not close, you cant walk away from those, eventually the sun will come out and cash nuetrals will become cash cows. I have some friends and relatives doing the same thing, I envy them and you, but I specialize in missed opportunities, it’s my calling card, no reason to change now. Plus I just spent the last two hours picking colleges with one of my kids, when did dorms cost a grand a month to split 80 square feet, jesus!

In regards to the smog comment, “up there” to outsiders is usually some place 10 or 20 miles from temecula, the actual city limits enjoys very little smog or pollution. It’s the reason the quarry is a big deal, let me explain….Everything from about Rancho California road and South has a unique wind pattern that blows ocean air accross the valley, that’s why the grapes are where they are and why temperatures are lower in the area affected by the “rainbow gap”
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Temecula_Valley_AVA
that article also cites the 538 million dollars in tourism from the wine country, a five fold increase in just six years, if you haven’t been lately, you don’t know what you are talking about.
But the very reason the air is clean is why the quarry is a bad idea and likely will cause more problems than most quarries. Maybe it will be no big deal, but the wind that blows the ocean air accross the grapes also passes through where the quarry is before it gets to town, thats the problem. It’s also going in next to SDSU’s nature preserve and other nice designated open spaces. For 100 jobs???
I do believe that they will find themselves in court and may just give up, if it gets built, the first air sample that comes back bad will land them in court again. The richest tribe in the state who owns the largest casino resort in the state is the first thing in its path and i put my faith in them to raise one hell of a stink. The truth is that they can outbribe a quarry company in their sleep, and they will. The Sunrise power link is in San Diego because they blocked it a few years earlier from screwing up their view. I have faith, our nimbys are better than your nimbys, we will be fine.
In other news, it sure looks like the hospital is under construction, that’s cool!!

temeculaguyParticipantEavesdropper, I recently put in about 1500 sq ft of wood flooring by myself. It ended up being easier and more fulfilling than I had imagined. Bribe your husband with sexual favors, use your imagination, think of things well beyond his imagination. This is not a typical TG joke, men are simple, spell out the reward schedule and the impossible becomes simple. Women often fail to see how simple we are, he can thank me later.

temeculaguyParticipantED, I was just alerted to this thread by a friend, I assure you carlsbadworker and I are not the same person. While an enticing social experiment, I am way too narcissistic to use two screen names for fear of losing credit. I’m also not a big fan of the WSJ, so much so that I didn’t even read the article because I’m so arrogant (I prefer the word confidant) that I can already assume what it says and it’s beneath me. Of course once the WSJ and Time and other sources say that housing is a bad investment, that’s when I think it is a good one.
