ParticipantThing is … I have no problem with FAANG companies being kicked.
Trump is an authoritarian at heart, but if he manages to rein in the FAANG companies, he’ll have done a service to privacy. Their business model is basically … “you’re the product, we want all of your personal data, we’ll sell it to the highest bidder, advertiser or government, whether you agree or not.” Even the auto companies are being evil by tracking new vehicles with 4G data connections — I think Tesla started THAT nice trend.
The tariffs? If they act as a tax on throw-away consumption, it might not be such a bad thing. The trend (started by liberal darling firm, Apple, BTW) of not even having easily replaceable batteries and having a walled garden with a limited OS update cycle is awful for the environment. E-waste is basically impossible to recycle cleanly, so long-term use is a better alternative.
Retaliatory tariffs on US pork? Good. Pig farming is a vile, polluting industry — the fewer pig farms the US has, the better it will be for our water quality.
Trump may end up being the best accidental, bumbling, blathering environmentalist and privacy advocate the US has had in 30 years. As long as his ass-kissing to the coal and oil industries and his more authoritarian decisions are tied up in court for the next 6.5 years, of course.

ParticipantWe’ll see. Jan-Mar broke trends in the downward direction — their argument is mostly “the trend says so it will be.” LOL.

ParticipantToo much funding for our military and its adventures abroad, not enough money going back to states. Cut certain parts of the military — parts of it have become a parasitic organization.

ParticipantNASDAQ- lol. Looks like the privacy/cloud chickens are finally coming home to roost with the Facebook call-tracking, etc, etc, etc, scandal.
If it’s free… you’re the product.

ParticipantFed rate is 1.5-1.75%, should be 2.25-2.75% by early next year. Are 10y rates ever below the Fed rate?

ParticipantMuch as I loathe Trump and the small-minded authoritarianism that he stands for, I’m not entirely against the tariffs on electronics and other Chinese/Far Eastern made trinkets.
(1) They’re a consumption tax on discretionary items like electronics and cars. Lower income tax + consumption tax that hits wealthy people who buy everything new isn’t a bad way to go. In some ways, it’s the equivalent of a VAT that exists in Europe and Canada, but only on foreign-made goods. Less wealthy people (read, us poors) can get around it by buying used or keeping things longer.
(2) They’ll encourage Americans to fix their electronics and keep them longer, not make more e-waste when a battery dies or a connector breaks. I’ve literally picked electronics off the street on curb day where the only problem was a broken prong on the power plug. Electronics are notoriously hard to recycle or dispose of in an environmentally kosher manner.
(3) This might actually encourage production of electronics designed to last longer. Not stuff with glued-in batteries and epoxied cases (Apple, MS, looking at you) as has become the fad recently. Planned obsolescence is an awful trend.
(4) They internalize the cost of buying things made in poor labor conditions and with little environmental oversight. As it is, we’re exporting our pollution to countries like China. And ultimately, pollution doesn’t stop at national borders. If this makes even a small dent in our consume-and-destroy economy, this will be a good thing for the Earth.

ParticipantSmall nit to pick 🙂
6.022 x 10^23 molecules = 1 mole.
1 cc = approx 1 gram of water.
Water is approximately 18 grams per mole.
Therefore, 1cc =~ 1/18 mole or 3.34×10^22 molecules.
Rest of your point stands … though even though there are a lot of molecules available in 1cc of blood, the tests for them have to actually be accurate. The accuracy, not the availablilty of molecules to test seems to be at issue here.
