Participant

That’s why I’m so interested in foreclosed and short-sold property. For an uncreative soul like myself, buying a few distressed properties, turfing whatever is squatting there out, renovating them a bit, and renting to decent humans represents the quickest route to having the financial security of a 50 year old while still in my 30s and be able to retire with her once I hit my 40s and she hits her 60s.
If I could be 50 years old tomorrow and skip the rest of my 30s and 40s, I’d be happy as a pig in shit.
Yes, but you would still have to live here, which you hate.
well yeah, but on the bright side, think of the ssenior discounts at marie callenders. almost makes youw ant to be in the AARP.
i took a day off to do some errands and the retirees at costco in the middle of the day did not look well.

why?
Because Prohibition really worked. Yep.
Speaking of which, today is the anniversary of the end of Prohibition. I plan to drink some absinthe, because fuck it.
im not sayng it worked. but it is rationally related to a legitimate state interest. it is not “stupid” to criminalize cigarettes, any more than it would be stupid to criminalize suicide or heroin, or not obeying your parents.
ill advised, maybe but not stupid.

Participant
Why is that so horrible, scaredy? Your wife is 20 years older?
not. it’s just, well, when i was 20, i wouldve been freaked out by the idea of having sex witha 50 year old. yet now, it seems, almost normal.
yet where does this end. will i be banging a 70 or 80 year old.
?
if current trends continue, this is what we see…

Participant
I’m ok with banning smoking in public. It’s irritating to smell other people’s smoke. There are also public health considerations. But banning smoking completely would be stupid.
Participant
scaredyclassic, I think IS has you beat to it…
http://www.9news.com.au/national/2014/12/05/16/07/isis-burn-banned-cigarettes-and-alcohol-on-bonfires“ISIL has banned drinking and smoking in their occupied territories in Iraq and Syria because it violates Sharia Law.
In the photos – believed to have been taken in Tikrit, Iraq – armed jihadists wave the black ISIL flag while others load up blazing bonfires with whisky, beer can and cigarette packets.”
G-d is great!
not different than US drug war

Participant
The day they ban cigarettes, I’m moving to some third-world country where no one gives a fuck.
aw cmon, once its illegal itll be cool again! like pot in the 70s. hell if they criminalize cigarettes, i think i’ll start smoking them…
plus there will be money making opportunities to open up rehab and counseling groups to get people off the tobacco…
cops will id known smokers by the smell of their clothes, frisk em and search em…maybe choke em to see if they got any matches…
of course it’s the kingpin tobacco dealers we have to get put out of business. the bigtime dealers who are moving multiple cartons a day…
it really is lame that cigarettes are not at least a misdemeanor, given the way things are…not necessarily how they should be…a reasonable parallel regime for cigs v the current drug laws is to make 1st time possession a misdemeanor, gte into rehab, then make subsequent possessions a felony. also, weekly tests for nicotine int he bloodstream…
federally, growing more than one acre of tobacco should be a death penalty case…

ParticipantNew York’s Most Prominent Smokers Weigh in on Bumming Culture
here is a very interesting article ont he culture surrounding bumming cigarettes in NYC. the high price of cigs i guess opens up a market for single cigarette sellers.
i would expect more people would roll their own cigs with loose tobacco when the price hits around 15 a pack, as in NYC. not sure how long it would take to roll a pack of cigs, but it’s all tax free money.
cigarettes will be illegal in our lifetime, but not quite yet.

Participanti am extremely happy today. me and my kids left early to go eat at panda express, which was inexplicably really fun, then it was raining, and i wanted a beanie hat, because i had one since 2002 that went missing this year, where is it I don’t know, it says salt lake city olympics 2002 and i got it off a cheerios box and i was hoping to keep wearing it till 2052, but its gone, so we darted across the parking lot to ross dress for less, an objectively depressing place, but it wasn’t! and got a cheap beanie, 7.99, and it is awesome but it doesnt have a date on it, but still, nice, but mainly we were having a really good time goofing around int he store, laughing at dumb things like size 14 shoes and a steelers cap and wallets and nothing…….and then we went to sprouts and bought salami and beer and some other lunch foods, and it was, well, really fun. like, super fun. like being on vacation fun for some reason. i apid for everything with this giant sack of change i am carrying around. and it was totally goofy….
people in america can have fun. it is possible
