It’s funny, I can remember in my 20s buying a dozen donuts a few times a year so the 3 of us (me, wife, son) could have 4 each. That sounds so preposterous now that I can’t believe we did it. Luckily we kicked that habit before it caught up with us.
Seriously? A few times a year would be a problem? Lighten up Francis.

The State benefits because they get more gas tax, so do not expect help from them.
Doesn’t the state get a fixed amount per gallon? Higher prices would then mean less revenue to the state due to fewer gallons sold.

Threadjack alert…If you want to discuss the virtues of Romney vs. Obama, by all means feel free — but please don’t insert it into an existing discussion on a different topic… rather create a new thread. Thanks…

Wasn’t the point of the thread to question whether the numbers were faked in order to help with Obama’s re-election ?
Seems to me the presidential race is the real topic.

ParticipantThe landlord should clean the carpet or better yet get rid of it.
Carpeting in the bathroom = BAD IDEA.

That’s bullshit… The red light camera can be off…way off. I’ve seen the ones in Carmel Valley in Del Mar Heights go off on the wrong time. Also, IF your car is at the shop and your mechanic blows through a red light, guess who ends up getting the ticket in the mail and who has the burden to prove it’s not you???
I’m referring to the fine vs the offense, assuming there is an offense. The fact that in some cases the cameras don’t function properly doesn’t make the fine too high for the offense. The enforcement procedure is a different issue to me.
As far as a mechanic running a red light with your car, you could also loan your car to someone who commits hit and run and a bystander happens to get the license plate number. Wouldn’t you agree the cops should at least start by knocking on your door? What’s the difference?

Driving is actually a privilege or hadn’t you heard?
I think $500 is getting off easy for running a red light. People get killed that way.
the red just came on as she slowed but not stopped for the right turn. it was perfectly safe.
this is just a way for the city to make money.
like I said, would have just paid it if it was lower.
I wasn’t responding to the original situation that I now see was about a year ago.
In general running red lights is dangerous. $500 doesn’t seem steep at all for most occurrences.

wow. This is just absurd. $535 is what probably half month rent for a lot of people… I mean you probably can afford this ticket, and so can I…I can’t imagine someone on minimum wage getting one of these….
Seriously, doesn’t it strike anyone that this is absurd? wow. state really needs money. $535 fine for a red light, which in itself is questionable tactic to ticket someone this way..
You know. It’s just wrong to assign a financial penalty to traffic offenses. If they were really interested in preventing this from happening, they would assign something like picking up trash for 100 hrs, in which it doesn’t matter if you could cough up the $500 or so….
LOL. Really? The climate’s changed so much in the last 2 years?

Participant
They offered $100 off on rent? Say yes, but do so with a 6 month lease (don’t know if you have a one year lease now), and month to month thereafter. Even though San Diego is currently in a warm spell, it is nearly October and no AC will be needed for at least six months. Savings=$600. THEN ask for AC or move.
I assume, of course, the heater works.
That’s great if she was moving in November 1, but October can be quite hot and the nights don’t start really cooling off until November.
I’d take the $600 and sweat out the hot days (no AC where I live in La Mesa) but everyone is different.

Participant
Everyone in Southern California knows that “air conditioning” in an ad means central air. If it’s a window unit, portable unit, or swamp cooler, then it will almost always specify this in the ad.
:)
I could find many more, but I just grabbed a few from areas I’m familiar with. All advertise AC but have wall units. People who advertise won’t usually point out that their AC is less than central. The photos give it away though. They will only specify if their unit DOES HAVE central air. Central air is not as common here as some seem to think.

ParticipantThe landlord should pass along the credit to the tenant.

Participant2008 wasn’t the peak. It is impossible that his home’s value dropped 45% in 7 months. He probably both overpaid and tried to get a lower assessment than justified. It doesn’t hurt to ask.
