ParticipantThis thread reminded me how much I miss being able to buy wine at Costco (or the supermarket, convenience store etc.) Damn Maryland State Stores. Do you guys know how much of a pain in the ass it is to be an alcoholic in this state?
Oh, and my favorite deal under $50 is 12 months of Xbox live for $49.99. Shooting my friends is such great stress relief.

ParticipantJim Jones and garysears both beat me too it, but I can tell you that for junior enlisted you can make a pretty penny doing a DITY move if you’re willing to sweat a little. The money the Navy gives you for a relocation allowance is quite a bit more than a UHAUL will cost you, including fuel/food costs. My brother did a few DITY moves, made out well each time. I would have done it when I was younger and enlisted, but I would never do it now as I have WAY TOO MUCH CRAP!

Participant
I started to type out thank you’s to various posters until I realized I highly doubt I’ll leave the site. Piggington is a strong part of the morning and evening routine.
Right there with you man. Even though we moved to Maryland almost a year ago now, I still check this site almost every day. Don’t post as much, as I don’t really follow SD real estate any more, but there are too many good minds and writers here. Plus the links to the other economic sites are fantastic.

ParticipantI can tell you with certainty that my wife would not have bought our current house if the previous owner died in it. The reason why I know this is that the husband did in fact die from a very aggressive cancer, and she wanted to make sure he didn’t actually pass in the house. My wife is Laotian and in her culture this would indeed be a very bad thing to happen in a house that you wanted to buy. She would be looking for his spirit everywhere.
On a similar note, when I was stationed in Japan I bought a Samurai sword, but I had to buy a newer one that was made in the traditional way. My wife forbid the purchase of an old original one (and I had my eye on a real nice one in Kamakura) because in Japanese culture when the Samurai warrior dies his soul passes into his sword, and my wife didn’t want the spirit of the dead warrior in the house.
You never quite know what beliefs you’re going to run into when you marry into another culture.
