Sorry if I came off as harsh, but I agree that BofA is crap and messed up. They also said they would do this and didn’t come through.
My thoughts probably were more centered on your idea of suing and how that came out. Sad thing is that lawyers probably won’t take the case since very little money is involved and if it’s a class action, there aren’t enough people to form a class in this case.
All this said, this is why I HATE online statements. I have 1 bank which does this to me or charges me so I have a reminder in my “things to do” to print them at a set time each month. I need to go back and do this for my brokerage statements as well and put those in my reminder calendar.
You always see “Get online access to your statements for 7 years!” I personally want “Get online access to your statements forever!”
joecParticipant
You’re mad because you didn’t keep any copies, and expected BofA to do it for you. Then, when you waited until the last minute to file your taxes, you’re pissed because BofA (who no longer services your loan) doesn’t have your info in a handy online version.
Your fault, your problem. Move on.
I kinda agree with mike92104…I will be sending in my taxes again at the last possible day again and always have to track down vendors for old invoices, credits, charges, etc…
Expecting a bank who really doesn’t give a craps ass about anyone to take care of your case is expecting a bit much IMO.
I don’t expect my vendors to come through all the time, but I blame myself and lack of time/laziness, not getting it done on time, etc…
Sorta like people not doing their own backups, if your machine crashes and you lose data, don’t expect IT to recreate all your work. Sorry, but most IT folks would probably just laugh (I was in IT and I laughed).
Sorry, but the whole I’m going to sue you because I waited for the last minute is what’s wrong with society…
I’d just use their number and after you get the info, you can amend your tax return if needed.

I haven’t researched what happens if someone doesn’t “buy” Obamacare and gets sick/huge hospital bill…
If it was as simple as paying a fine and then buy insurance once you get sick, then everyone would do that and not carry any car/home/fire insurance, etc…
If a young adult can pay 100-200 or a low amount with tax credits which any low income person would qualify for, just pay and get the insurance so you won’t have to fight the massive legal fight to remove/zero out some huge medical bills.
It’s just not worth it and will be a financial drag far more than the few hundred you need to pay. Families, coverage is more obviously.
For the < 18 year old, they'd probably qualify for medicaid/medi-cal in CA if no/low income so they pay little or zero anyways... Again, do the research, but from what I've seen now and for my case, Obamacare looks to be a winner.

So you paid $12K/year for a plan with maternity because you had an addition to family. I assume you were worried that the hospital was going to charge 10s of thousands of dollars to have that child even if it was a standard delivery. Why does it cost 20, 30, 40, 50K for a relatively standard baby delivery procedure. 50 years ago it cost a couple hundred dollars that pretty much anybody could come up with out of pocket. Even with inflation it might cost a couple thousand dollars in today’s money. Why do you need to pay $12K year to cover something that should cost a couple grand. We know that is doesn’t because the hospital is probably billing north of $20K.
But I will agree that for some individuals Obamacare is going to be good. For others it’s going to not be so good. Your particular circumstances landed you on the good side of Obamacare. There will be others on the bad side of Obamacare. Some single male somewhere is helping you pay for your affordable maternity coverage.
Actually, the bills could run upwards of 100k+. A co-worker of mine was planning a normal vaginal birth with no meds, but had complications and had to do an emergency c-section and his bill was well over 100k. Our eldest was a primie and bill with all the stuff involved was near 300k…Thank god for large employer insurance during that event years ago.
We only carry maternity now “in case”.
That said, if it was only 20k, I may risk it and just pay, but you don’t want to fight the hospitals and people end up in bankruptcy because of medical bills. 62% from this article:
http://finance.yahoo.com/news/pf_article_109143.htmlThis is why I think something needs to be done and since putting people bk doesn’t help anyone…
Even young kids won’t want to get strapped with huge medical bills early on so just buy the insurance.
joecParticipant
Well, especially these days, a good portion of the cars aren’t actually owned, but leased….. Aside from some folks who do so because they can write it off and it makes sense, the majority of the leasee I suspect do so, because they really can’t afford it, but want status rights..
4 years of included maintenance, on a 3 year lease. Translation.. Abuse the heck of out the car, turn the car in at the end of the lease. Internal damage can’t really be inspected out anyway…
I think only in SD I see more Mercedes, BMWs, and Audi’s then I do see Honda Accords or Toyota Camry’s…
Hah, maybe that’s just in CV 🙂
I see tons of mini-vans myself. In LA on the west side, almost every other car is a MB SL I’ve noticed.
joecParticipantSo for the people who are extremely against Obamacare, do they even need to buy insurance on their own or get coverage through their job already?
Initially, I was against it, but I am totally loving what they are planning to do with this.
I currently pay over 1k per month for me and my family. Coverage is really crappy for my spouse, but she still has maternity on her plan for now. With all the new plans, it’s included.
What’s really troubling is like getting a mortgage, if you’re self employed, even if you’re willing to pay up the wazoo for say maternity, no insurance company even offered it. When I was searching for insurance (self-employed), all over California, all of 1 company had it and it was in a really crappy plan (which we use now).
I’ve stated this before, but the problem with healthcare is that unless we are seriously willing to just let people die and deny people health/help, you have to have some kind of universal insurance. If you don’t pay for it, you already have the system now where emergency rooms are jammed and people without care use that anyways. It’s not fair that some people have to pay more and some people without money pay less, but again, unless we as a society are ok with simply letting people die, you need something.
The number 1 killer for Republicans longer term is if Obamacare finally decouples a job with healthcare, I think that’s a major improvement for everyoneand businesses included. Business have been getting raped with how much healthcare costs and not making it the responsibility of the company is a wonderful thing. For all businesses. A business shouldn’t be in the business to provide healthcare and just do what the biz is meant for.
I think it’s stupid that you have to get a job at a big company to get healthcare. What this leads to is lame workers just working for healthcare who maybe better off doing something else they are truly passionate about. You will have a much more smart re-alignment of the workforce.
Lastly, unless you really have shopped for insurance on your own, I don’t think some people understand how hard it is to find sometimes. I’m in excellent health and don’t smoke/drink, never had any major illness, extremely low fat/weight index, etc…All my current plans now cost more than any plan under the new system and I get better coverage too. Add in health credits for any median family of 4 and the insurance is downright cheap compared to anything you can ever find on your own.
Again, I didn’t vote for Obama last election, but if you need healthcare and even if you’re healthy and self employed, Obama care is truly awesome and if this works, Republicans are going to be losing for a long time I feel. I grew up Republican actually and am independent now since all the politicians suck, but until you price it out and try yourself, it’s easy to bash it. I know I did.
This…again, coming from someone who generally doesn’t like Obama to begin with and vote against any tax increases/bond deals, etc…
October 7, 2013 at 6:47 PM in reply to: OT: Justice for Alexian Lien: victim of mob beating… #766498joecParticipant
Folks, I apologize. This thread took it for the wrong direction, and it’s partly my fault.. That wasn’t my intention.
If it’s ok with all of you, I’m asking if Rich can delete all the comments on this thread.
Because the entire point was to get people to help, not to throw everyone into a slapfest. And I should have known better (I had this rage going on for the past couple of days, that I haven’t even gotten much sleep over this over the past couple of days, let and alone did pretty shitty at the autocross yesterday too)…So I’ll take the accountability on this one.. (Yeah, I know, foreign concept)…
Anyway, if folks want to help, send us a message on
facebook.com/JusticeForAlexianLienNow
If you don’t, that’s fine too. We have about 15,000 people so far that are following us and there’s soon to be another 8000 or more once we complete merging a few other groups…
Besides just “liking” this, we’ve been getting a lot of help from people who are on social media who have stumbled across videos, blogs, IM’s, instagrams, etc from people who are affiliated with these mobs who are now trying to delete things.. Obviously, in the day of data caching on the internet, one can’t really “delete” things once it’s out there, so folks have been really helpful and sending us stuff that people are trying to delete.
And it’s working because as terrible as analogy it is, it’s like having 20,000+ workers that’s watching these folks on the grid, which is probably even more effective than the NSA….
If you want to help, and you’re active on social media, that’s where we can get help from.. More information, more data, more evidence you come across, even if you think it’s a duplicate. That’s fine. Submit it to us, and we’ll cull it to see if it’s a dupe…..
The rest is up to the justice system to decide…
With that, I’m signing off this thread because duty calls…
I for one, am glad you posted about this. I actually didn’t know about this till coming here since life is busy and I follow these forums loosely now (and don’t follow much news unless it’s financial). I think you’re also raging for the simple reason that you see that this could’ve been you. Me as well.
Since I’m not a rider, but have a family and kids, I could’ve just as easy been the SUV driver and ran over these guys.
For the people who are more supportive of the bikers, do they have a family/wife with very young kids and do they ride? That’d probably explain a lot of the back and forth since we’re all predisposed to prejudge based on our background/experiences in life and what/who we relate with.
I was raging over this case as well, but my wife didn’t seem to care to much. Maybe it’s cause women always had these fears all the time in general.
October 5, 2013 at 10:38 AM in reply to: OT: Justice for Alexian Lien: victim of mob beating… #766354joecParticipantHere’s another fun one of the guy who is in the hospital possibly suing…yes, the guy with a 6 page rap sheet, the guy who has never had a motorcycle license and is suspended from being on the road till at least 2017:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e5dsbv_NDhg
He should’ve never been on the road to begin with. Sorta like if I come and try to break into your house with a gun and beat you silly, then I slip, I be suing your ass…
What a great great country we live in. I really hope the judge or someone throws that case out and sticks all the court costs to the plantiff.
Someone posted this on the comments:
Boston Herald: The guy…”has a six-page criminal record that began at age 12 with a negligent driving charge and includes jail time for drugs, guns, resisting arrest and other convictions, according to court records.Edwin Mieses, 32, never got a driver’s license in the Bay State, the Registry of Motor Vehicles said, but he was frequently nabbed behind the wheel, and even sentenced to jail for driving without a license, court records show. Mieses has a pending case out of Lawrence DistrictCourtOctober 5, 2013 at 9:28 AM in reply to: OT: Justice for Alexian Lien: victim of mob beating… #766341joecParticipantThis is sorta why with stories and videos like this, people will and should I think feel that if the shit hits the fan, don’t expect much help from the Police or anyone else. In an emergency or a natural disaster.
I used to be a total anti-gun person, but maybe it’s the media reports or what not, but perfectly am ok with people having them and would consider it as well if not for kids.
This story after finding about it here is sorta pissing me off as well. What I DO find annoying are motorcycles or people also who think that just because they are on a bike or a pedestrian DEMAND the right of way.
Even when I walk around, I totally don’t expect cars will give me the right of way since there is no lack of wack jobs out there who will run you over for fun. I was driving in the bay area years ago and saw a crazy guy directly in front of me turn his steering wheel going 65+MPH and smashed into the center divide causing an accident. Almost got in an accident myself as well as I had to go into another lane with someone also there who moved to his further lane…
Just because you are on a motorcycle, don’t think for a second the driver you piss off isn’t MORE crazy than you and will have no problem running you over because they had a bad day or are depressed or are simply raging and pissed in general.
I admit I probably have road rage issues myself and am glad I don’t drive much and can see myself being the suv driver or the motorcycle crazed guys, but this went on too far and these motorcyclist need to stop these take over the street campaigns.
If a motorcycle is dumb enough to slam his breaks in front of you, woe to him/her if you forget to stop and run them over. They should do something to “ban” this type of motorcycle behavior.
joecParticipantA lot of interesting info in this thread and enjoyed all the info on CFD bonds.
I think a lot of people don’t pay them off because, for 1, they don’t have the cash, 2) they rather just keep the cash themselves since no one knows what will happen and if they will stay in the home long term.
If you are very wealthy, it’s worth considering, but some downsides I see is that you would lose the tax break that everyone is taking when paying these yearly. The tax break is pretty big for high income folks (45%?) Another thing is the time value of money. $5000 30 years from now even if increased 2% a year is not the same as $5000 today which is worth a lot more.
There’s little to no inflation now (according to the fed, but tons of inflation in things like education/healthcare, etc…)…
That said, similar to a mortgage, the CFD could be worth a lot in saving high income people a lot of taxes and if inflation were to come back, the mortgage and the CFDs won’t be as bad in 20-40 years neither.
All that said, you really have to just do the math to see if it makes sense for your situation.
No plans to pay here since we don’t have the money and could use more funds for business instead.
joecParticipantYeah, I read those articles too…They are being sent to Adobe Bluffs, a school that is 21 years old or something according to the article. The parent also lived directly across the street from the school so instead of walking to school with the kid and having some bonding time, they have to drive and fight the traffic…pretty f*cked up for everyone and a major fail by the administration imo.
joecParticipantTypically, when an attorney advertises a fixed fee for a trust, they will try to sell you an insurance product or something else to make up for the trust. I’d recommend just budgeting say 1k-2k depending on how complex your situation is.
It should also take a few conversations to get all the info.
I need to do this myself
.
joecParticipantThere are various articles stating pretty much all the new elementary schools in 4s is full so if you aren’t in the MR district, you won’t be able to go. Even people IN the district and paying aren’t sure to go to their school next door I read just in an article a few weeks back and the guy was being sent to Adobe Bluffs or something.
There is a new K-8 school coming in 4s near del sur where all the new building is which should help a bit I’d guess since most of the full classes seems to be in Kindergarten.
Everything in older 4s is pretty much sold/done.
joecParticipantI always found it strange that if you had a ton of equity in a home, why a bank would not want to refinance you. I assume if you had 40% equity, won’t they just get your home at 40% off if you defaulted?
The whole problem with the past housing bubble was no money down. If they required 20%+ down, the housing bubble probably wouldn’t have happened.
