ParticipantHow much is the education they are receiving worth? It’s not like they are taxed on that money and I don’t know if either of my kids will get anything like that. Hopefully some baseball money but even that is usually smallish as there are twice as many kids on the team as scholarships (so they divide them up).
I am not sure I care that much about giving them $150 week stipend, but then you have to pay all athletes right? Some Big-Ten school with a team in every conceivable sport suddenly has a lot of kids to pay. The big Ohio State/Texas type revenue schools can handle it, but you must have FOOTBALL money to be able to afford this. Men’s basketball is the next best thing and it’s dwarfed by football revenue and can’t cover these costs.

ParticipantI didn’t really care who won…kissing your sister and all that…
I hate watching Pau Gasol. Now I’ll admit he’s got talent and is one of the best bigs in the game. What I can’t stand is the fake flailing about with exaggerated flops, arms flying everywhere from just being touched. I saw him literally jump to the ground at the end of one the games as if Garnett knocked him 6 feet off of his spot. (trust me I don’t like Garnett and his faux intensity/thuggery either). In this case Garnett barely touched him and he jumped to the ground almost as if he grew up watching SOME OTHER sport that is quite popular on his continent and the rest of the world. Flopper.
What I wouldn’t give for the late 80’s Pistons right now to have someone hammer his ass into the freakin’ wood once in a while. Or when Magic clotheslined Isiah Thomas’ ass. I miss that NBA.

ParticipantI’ve already said Gingrich’s personal life is scarred, this isn’t news. And many hard core types think he is a RINO if you must know.
However, the faith as a wedge stuff was not coming from him. He was laser focused on contract with america. The point Alan was trying to make is that you are making shit up. It’s called an agenda. Your agenda is simply that christian republicans are seeping from the sidewalks at every turn and must be stopped. Then you find a way to plop that agenda down, and in this case you plopped it into the wrong thread and got called on it. I don’t mind you having an agenda in some cases it drives discussion, but you need to step out of the prism you see the world through and realize it’s not all black and white.
I don’t recall anyone attaching Newt to the Falwell/Robertson wing. Read the contract with America (and see how much Bill implemented in a warmed over way)…. You aren’t going to see a lot of evangelical talk in it.
