ParticipantAbout the only thing I feel I am failing the kids on, is that the landlords do not want us to get a dog. Now since we have been in the house 2 years if we sign another lease it seems as if they’ll need to change carpets and such anyway, they might give in. Now the house is small, 1050 Sq. Feet, with two boys 10 and 12.
Since moving here two years ago, the kids are well adjusted at our upper class schools (Cardiff), both very well-liked, LL baseball all-stars, honor roll students, etc. They are enjoying quite a little childhood, for the $1800 a month I pay for this junker. And we could literally stay here for years, so maybe renting is ok IF and only IF you find the right house/landlord.
Coming from 2400 Sq. Feet with a 1200 Sq. feet basement was a bit of a shock, as well as losing the pool and basketball court in my 3 acre yard. However the kids manage. They’d move back to the midwest and have a big yard in a heartbeat, but right now I’d say things are pretty stable.

ParticipantI don’t like the long indentured servitude status of H1-B. I think it should be 1-2 years tops. This “free Agency” keeps US Business’ from hiring just to save costs (they’d never do that). The hiring should be about filling a shortage in a skill area.

ParticipantWe have some friends in the Composer district, they all seem to like it there. I honestly do not know what kinds of homes are sprinkled throughout, as I generally went to their houses without looking around. The ones I know live in some really fancy digs on a somewhat private street. There are ex-pro athletes and current ones living in that area, and many kids. I don’t know the area well enough to say if they have adequate places to play and hang out. Elementary aged kids attend the Cardiff Schools in that area (separate from Encinitas Union). Once in Jr. High it all reverts to San Dieguito schools.

ParticipantFrom ocrenter’s blog there are plenty of articles on 4S or 4Closure Ranch. How can anyone read Piggington and claim to have never heard the term 4-Closure Ranch?
To get positive spin, go talk to people who live there, and to get some interesting data read these articles from the bubble-tracking blog. Note the loss at greater than 10% in less than a year on one of the homes. I like the guy down around $320K in one year’s time, though that could end up more or less as ocrenter is merely taking the average that homes have been sold for.

ParticipantNot that this has anything to do with the thread but the Nation of Islam are not really muslims. Spaceships flying overhead? Malcolm X was purported to have been killed for converting to mainstream Islam.
Islam sees Nation of Islam as not being Islamic, much the same way that Christians look at Mormons or Jehovah Witnesses as not being Christian.

ParticipantHe is not saying there is anything wrong with Encinitas he is is saying that there are other areas in Encinitas from which you can find a better place. So the knock was more on Encinitas Ranch.

ParticipantA couple of references to ocrenter's blog. The second one mentions a pullout of builders in San Elijo Hills, Fashion Walk and others. The weeds of Del Sur.
