I love my AMEX card as well, but it is not accepted everywhere. I get shot down a lot with that card since they charge the merchant double what VISA/Mastercard do. Discover and AMEX have this extended warranty for all of their customers. I believe VISA signature cards also have a similar policy that extends the manufacturers warranty by a year. The VISA and Mastercard policy is different for each card.

The thought crossed my mind to get a separate TOU as well, but I thought it would be too much of a hassle and would be a good payout considering our usage. We were typically in tier 1 for usage, so I will see where we are at after getting an EV this month.
I couldn’t afford the Model S, but opted for the poor-man’s Tesla (Rav4 EV).
BoomerAangParticipanthomeadvisor.com, which use to Service Magic will usually have three contractors bid on a particular project around your area. There is a ranking system there as well so you can see other people’s reviews on a particular contractor. You will also be able to separate projects and organize things fairly easily. Be prepared to come home to meet a lot of subcontractors though.
Then again, you can do a lot of projects yourself quite easily if you have the patience and the time. It goes a long way if you are starting out with your home.
BoomerAangParticipantAnother point to consider, is the OP working around San Diego? Consider how much is saved from gas costs to offset that loss of $500 in mortgage vs. potential rent. I have friends that were spending around $1000 in gas every month to drive back and forth for work in Carlsbad. They switched to more gas efficient cars, so even if they have 2 more new car payments they are still ahead.
In the same situation, I would rather struggle a bit while keeping the TV house while renting in North County. Maybe rent a smaller place in North County as well so that the strain financially is not as painful.
BoomerAangParticipantWould you be able come out even if you sold your Temecula home with all the commissions, etc.? If projected rent does not cover your mortgage, insurance, property taxes, but selling the place would recoup your original downpayment and pay for all of the commission fees then you probably have your answer.
BoomerAangParticipantYou can rent out your existing Temecula home while renting a place in North County.
I was debating between Temecula and North County as well back in 2009, but ended up getting a townhome in Carlsbad. Loving the fact that work is only a little bit away, but wondering how big of a house I could have had. I have a couple friends in Temecula that are trying to get back to a place nearby in North County as well.
BoomerAangParticipantI guess it depends on the group of people you are meeting with. We can just sit and drink coffee/tea with the folks. Some friends we just play board games. A way to decrease calorie intake would just meet up with people after lunch or dinner. That makes the urge to eat decrease.
BoomerAangParticipantDo some activities together. I play billiards when I talk with guy friends. We go to bars together, bowling, etc. Just find some random activity that you can do together when you meet. K1 in carlsbad? Wine-tasting, microbrewery or bars?
BoomerAangParticipantI have an HTPC…costs around $200~300 for a simple one. I use it to stream hulu, netflix and watch anime. If you have some front-end software, then that will make it easier for your wife to use as well. We also have an ir-remote that we use so that it feels less like a computer. I haven’t had the need for cable tv for a couple years.
BoomerAangParticipantgood for you walter…the hardest part is keeping the routine of working out and being consistent about it… best wishes towards keeping it up…
