Participant

If there’s all these research put in to produce BEV and FCEV, why aren’t there a lot of research being made in desalinating water? After all, the ocean water is abundant. If we can desalinate at a more affordable cost, then all these talk about drought would be moot.
Yeah, but we might kill a fish.
Which is why the technology will likely be developed, or at least scaled up in another country. Maybe Mexico. Then we can build a pipeline.

ParticipantShoving 4992×3328 image into 365×270 box on the linked page is not good practice. I hope their houses are built better than their website.
Those who bought early did well in most of the post-Y2K communities. What would FLU do?

I would actually welcome a Target in 4S Ranch. Like others, I much prefer it vs. a Walmart which I never go to. The nearest Target for us is either Mira Mesa but I typically just go to the one in Escondido in the Mall as it’s so big.
The one in Poway might be more convenient for you. Definitely less congestion on the surface streets than the one in Mira Mesa. Just get on 56 and drive east.all
ParticipantWhenever you see wide gap between lanes going in opposite directions you should assume that additional lanes will be added. That was the case with Camino Del Norte / Camino Del Sur, that will happen with Carmel Valley Road as well as Hwy 56 (I think the plan is to expand 56 to 4 lanes each way).
I don’t like Target there. I like high-density subdivisions that will fill in the space between the big box store and the high school even less.

ParticipantThere is Home Depot in Carmel Mountain Ranch and there is another one in Mira Mesa. Both should be less than 10 miles driving distance from you.

ParticipantBlack Mountain Ranch had major retailer planned since the plan was made public and voted on 15-20 years ago.
I don’t think there is much you can do about it now.EDIT:
This is what the new shopping center is supposed to look like. Traditional big-box setup – large store surrounded by big parking lot and few shops on the perimeter.all

“A recent paper by Richard Topolski at George Regents University and colleagues, published in the journal Anthrozoös, demonstrates this human involvement with pets to a startling extent…
40% of respondents, including 46% of women, voted to save their dog over a foreign tourist [when they could only save one].”
There is 46% chance that by saving a foreign female tourist you would be saving someone who would save their dog over you if you ever visit their domicile.

ParticipantAN,
As CAR pointed out – you do have options. You are not forced to send your kid to a public school, unless your kid has special needs (not necessarily due to medical condition, but also due to socio-economic conditions).
You don’t have options when it comes to paying your taxes. You have to pay your taxes and some of that money will be used to fund the public education system regardless of your participation in that system.
I am not saying that public schools are outperforming private schools. Au contraire, I am not satisfied with my kids’ school and I am reevaluating options.

Participant
CAR, my numbers were from greatschools.org 3-4 years ago. It was $12-13k back then. So, it seems like there are a lot of budget cut over the last few years. But based on the parents I talked to with kids in public schools, the class size has also risen over the last few years as well. So, although the expenditure went down, our children got the short end of that stick. At a private school, $10k will get you a class size that’s 1/2 of what it is in public school. So, something is not adding up. I actually don’t want spending cut for education, I just want to get more for our tax dollar. Maybe it’s the fact that public school is much more top heavy (as you stated) that’s the reason why we’re spending so much and get so little.
You can check the numbers for the past 10+ years on the link CAR provided. SD unified maxed out at $10,500 few years ago. Poway unified is 20% lower.
Private schools keep the cost down by turning away high-cost students. When my friend’s kid fell behind the grade level in reading the administrator told my friend to get a tutor or take the kid out. There are far fewer subsidized lunches, special needs or remedial cases in private schools.

Participant
Thanks for the quick response all… one question:
do you mean that going from Del Sur to Fallbrook will be worse than going from the Northern edge of SD or vice versa. I’m assuming vice versa. 🙂We will also look in Temecula, but prefer the schools in the PUSD or even the San Dieguito district.
Is carlsbad that close? google maps has me at 35 min from Carlsbad to Fallbrook.. essentially the same time from the Del Sur/Black Mountain area.
The house I linked to is as close as you can get to Fallbrook and still stay in PUSD, and it is in the city of San Diego. The commute to/from Del Sur would be 10-15 minutes longer.
Carlsbad would be worse, Hwy 78 is not commute-friendly in either direction during rush hour.
all
ParticipantYou likely would not have to use the express lanes. I15 north of Lake Hodges is not that bad even during the rush hour and you will be going against the traffic. It should not be worse than weekend traffic. That being said, there is still big difference between driving from Del Sur and driving from the northern edge of San Diego.
With that kind of budget I would start here: http://www.redfin.com/CA/San-Diego/18342-Saint-Etienne-Ln-92128/home/6540866
