ParticipantThe thing about Musk is, he’s not thinking 2-3-5-10 years ahead. He’s thinking 20-30-50-100 years ahead. I understand why that may not interest some (most) people.

ParticipantTesla’s working on a system to swap out the entire battery system in less time than it takes you to pump a tank of gas: http://www.teslamotors.com/batteryswap
Watch the video, pretty interesting. Imagine your charge is running low — you simply drive up to a replacement station (similar to how gas engines force you to drive to a gas station), get new batteries, and are back on the road in under 90 seconds. Granted, you’d need plenty of replacement stations within range, but that’s the eventual goal.
So imagine the consumer being able to offload battery replacement/wear/degradation/maintenance to GiantBatteryCo(tm). As the batteries get swapped, GiantBatteryCo(tm) can run diagnostics on each pack and fix/replace/recycle as needed in a centralized location/process. The EV consumer no longer needs to worry about batteries in the same way that combustion engine consumers no longer need to worry about oil extraction/refining.
Batteries are one of the biggest sticking points for EVs, but if you remove those from the equation, it changes the outlook quite a bit.

ParticipantI’ve been with Cox ever since they started offering Cable internet back in the late-90s. Never had a problem with them, but I did switch to AT&T for a short while to check out the competition. I quickly switched back to Cox after realizing AT&T’s speeds were shit.
Just ran a speedtest from North Park, currently a “Premier” subscriber:

I purchased both my modem and my router. I work from home so am very sensitive to speeds/service and have never really had a complaint with Cox. About 6 months ago I cut cable and only use Cox now for Internet services. We stream a shit-ton of Netflix/YouTube/Spotify/Pandora and have never had issues.
I’ve read recently at Broadbandreports that speed increases are coming soon to SoCal. Check out the forum there, lots of good info on Cox.

ParticipantLurk mode, engaged.
I still visit often to see what’s cooking. I still have interest in the end-game of the bubble explosion and in San Diego real estate in specific and macro-economics in general. I’ve learned a lot here and still visit to catch up on piggs’ general consensus on various topics of the day, because I respect what all (or most) here have to say.
I just don’t have much to say anymore. It’s easy for me to pop in with snarky one-liners (which I still admittedly do occasionally), but I feel that in order to properly engage in a discussion, it takes an investment in thought and time, both of which I have little bandwidth for these days. I guess buying a house and having a kid will do that to a person.
Never change, Piggs. Never change.

Participant
Last of the series, are you going to their event today? Have not been to the new facility but planning to go on the 26th. (Need help to get over the day at the In-Laws on the 25th)
Nah I wish. But I’ve got 06-12 chilling in my fridge waiting for NYE when my beer loving friends from out of town come for a visit. My brother works at the South Park store, so I’m hoping he can come through with 02-05 before then. 🙂
The 02’s were going for like $800 on Ebay. I knew a guy who had a couple of his cellared 03’s & 04’s stolen during a party at his house. People are insane about this series. They’re taking over Untappd at the moment:

ParticipantWhenever I receive a too-firm handshake I assume the person is insecure and using their firmness to compensate. Kinda like nutz on a lifted truck. If you have to work so hard to prove how tough or serious you are, you probably aren’t that tough or serious.
